I'll say 425' based on a similar dimension on my property. Remember, if you are laying cable, you should allow a few feet extra for going around curves/corners.

It looks like a good poke with a Callaway Big Bertha & it's all carry,
about 245 yards /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ...RayBee

Hummm, just thought of something. I have the camera that picture was taken with, If I can find something that is 6 foot wide and take several shots while moving away. When the picture I take has the 6 foot object the same pixel width as the buildings, I should be close to the same distance away..

I noticed utility poles in the picture. They might be a uniform distance apart. Maybe you could contact the utility company for the distance they are set at then count the number of poles.

Good idea but what looks like utility poles are a ski lift and light poles.. I will try the camera today and let everyone know what I come up with.

I just thought of something as well why don't you just step it off and have it over with.

753 feet.

Yes, I really spent some time on that.

Is there a map available of the area, say on TerraServer?
Maps

You could import it and count it off that way....

The chances that I actually found it are about .05%, considering I don't know where it really is, but, is this it?

Another thought regarding maps, if it is a ski resort do they have a map that shows the various slopes? You may be able to figure the distance if there is anything to provide scale.

There must be more to this story.

Why exactly do you have to try and figure this out from a picture? Is there a reason you or someone else can't step it off in person? Please explain.

186 yards. When you find out the distance you are going to post it right? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( I hope you guys are way off, I really don't know.
Need to make sure I have enough cable to go from the top of the hill (where the two little buildings are) to the bottom. This hill is in Colorado and I am in Oklahoma or I would just go measure it
)

This was in what he said in his second post. He later said that this is a ski resort and he is putting in a picture system.

Great guesses guys, especially the scientific ones. According to my camera test it is more or less 400 feet to the two buildings, of course I could be wrong. Week after next I will know for sure and report back what it actually is.

Gotta run, will follow up when I have more time.
Thanks,
Bob

well instead of putting cable in why not just use a transmitter and a reciver and do it in the air /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Bob - We're heading up to the ski areas this weekend and I remembered this thread. Just curious if you got the exact measurement?

Oh ya almost forgot, it was right at 500 foot to the top of the hill so we were pretty close. My technician is still in Vail, among other problems seems as though the resort can't keep the power on and the cameras keep freezing up.

Whole different world than what we normaly work in. Makes me appreciate warm summer nights in amusement parks.

CTyler 500' (+)
