Need heat pump help again

You don't see many york units around here .The few that I see is on the commerical side. Trane had a good advertising campaign at one time. Remember, "its hard to stop a trane"?
Customers remember this, and as you know, I can make more off of a trane than other brands because of this. You said something about the 10 year warrant not covering labor. I do offer the 10 year parts & labor warranty.xtra of course, but some ask for it. You know, you were talking about who owns who. Its the same with appliances .You don't know who will be bought out tomorrow. Just found out the other day maytag has their name plate on a unit now . ( by Nordine)

You should take the plant tour when Trane (actually it was American Standard) "wines and dines" you.

Big white limo into the plant with about 300 people along the driveway "cheering" as you drive in. They really do market well /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You hit the nail on the head, it's all about marketing.

Maytag is made by Nodyne (sp?). Same "company" as Miller and Intertherm (a lot of mobile home applications, and thats a whole other story).

I thought it was interesting that Armstrong (actually the man. plant in S.C has a very "long name" that includes Lennox and "some others") made Whirlpool myself /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Least we forget about Gibson, Fridgedare (sp?), Kelvinator, Fedders, Tappan...

Goodman even "private lables" thier equipment (Adams Furnace co. in Ohio comes to mind on thier A/C units).

Yorks big "selling feature" now is that you can change the color of your condensing unit by changing the panels, they even have a "Bermuda" color. I'll refrain from more comments on that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As mentioned in a previous post on this topic, it will be interesting what Haier (sp?) will look like. Supposedly (sp?) they are less (in cost) than Goodman.

Boilers are really easy to figure out, but... this is old news (about 5 years now), do you know who owns Thermo Pride? Burnham Boilers in Lancaster, Pa. does. Go figure (well, there is a reason /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ). I mention that because I still find people who don't know that fact.

One other note, anyone looking for HVAC equipment, please do take anything that consumer reports rate as quality as a major factor in your decision making process. A couple of years ago they rated Rheem as the "best" unit and Rudd as the "worst" unit. Amazing, made on the same assembly line (although it might of changed by now).

"Do take" or "don't take" what CR has to say as a factor?
Personally, I've given up on them and dropped my subscription. I purchased items they rated as the "best" and the following year, they rated as middle-of-the-road or worse.

Follow-up:

I just got a 5 ton 14.1 seer Amana installed.
Matching air handler/a-coil/heat strips
Heavy duty air filter
Thermostat (super high tech thingy - White-Rodgers 90 Series)
Full installation

He just left after 1 1/2 days of installation (2 - 3 guys).

I think he under estimated the installation (and helped me) since he (at no charge to me):
1. Change some plumbing (to remove the water valve that was on an old plenum humidifier)
2. Cover the hole in the plenum where the old humidifier was.
3. Replace the circuit breaker in the main panel
4. Run new electric from the main panel to the furnace
5. Build a pad under the heat pump (the old unit was sitting on bricks. The new has that concrete/foam pad on top of a box he made out of 6x6's

Duct temperature is 54 degrees off the plenum. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And the very best part (drum roll please......)
