Got out there this morning and put the charged battery in. When trying to start with key several things are happening, but it's not starting.

If I turn the key to the ON position the glow plug light slow blinks, doesn't go away.

If I turn the key to the ON position a red right in the right side of the dash comes on, glass is so foggy I can't really tell, but I think it's a PTO related light. I'm guessing this is being caused by one of the 2-3 killswitches under the left fender so I can test those next time I'm out there.

If I turn the key past on to start, I hear a single click, but no start.

I was able to take my push button starter tool connected to low-voltage terminal of starter and positive terminal of battery, key on, and tractor starts and runs. Did not attempt to drive because all of the lever/control labels are gone. I have no idea what position any of the levers are in and couldn't find photos online to reference. Also couldn't find an online version of the operator's manual that didn't cost money so I'm assuming I'll just need to grab one off ebay.

Noticed two hydraulic leaks. One leak is where there is a 3" rubber hose connecting two metal lines together just below the starter(this line runs to a cooler mounted near the top/front of the radiator...hydraulic or trans?), and the other leak is a pinhole in one of the short hoses on the bucket.

On to the photos...

Leak #1 from the left hose clamp, should be easy enough to fix. Is this carry trans fluid to the cooler in front of the radiator, or hydraulic fluid for the pto/bucket?

Leak #2 from one of the bucket hoses. Visually, this hose is in the worst shape so I can see about just replacing it for now.
NH_004.jpg

Unknown switch. Doesn't light up when on. All I can think of is that it's for the rear-facing headlight/spotlight mounted on the right side of the canopy frame.
NH_010.jpg

The left side dash lights that come on when key is turned to ON position. Glow plug light never goes off, just blinks.
NH_006.jpg

The right side dash light that comes on when key is turned to ON position. I'm assuming this is causing the tractor not to start with the key.
NH_007.jpg

Left side controls, no labels.
NH_008.jpg

Right side controls, no labels.

I wouldn't be opposed to just taking a paint marker to draw the control lever info instead of dropping $100 on new lever decals, but I'd need good photos of both sets of levers and their decals from someone that owns a similar model with the same levers.

YOU CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE LEVERS DO BY THE LETTERING ON TOP OF THE KNOBS---IN LAST PIC 3PH IS THREE POINT HITCH (TPH). LITTLE BLACK KNOB IN THE SLOT IS A LOCK THAT IS ADJUSTABLE TO SET THE HIGTH OF THE TPH . FWD IS FOUR WHEEL DRIVE--HI PTO IS PTO SPEED, IT MIGHT HAVE A TWO SPEED PTO-(-POWER TAKE OFF)--FWD (FOUR WHEEL DRIVE ) CHANGES DRIVE FROM 4WHEEL TO 2WHEEL. CAN'T MAKE OUT OTHER LETTERING. IF YOU POST YOU WILL GET SOME HELP.

The tops of the levers on the right side...REMOTE and 3 PT. The tops of the levers on the left side...RANGE, MID PTO, REAR PTO, FWD.

I have never owned a tractor or operated one other than driving my dad's JD once or twice so I'm lost on most of this stuff. I didn't touch any of the levers while the tractor was running because I want to know what they do before I start messing with them.

I'm assuming 3 PT raises and lowers the brush hog mounted on the back. No idea what REMOTE is for. No idea what RANGE is for. REAR PTO and MID PTO I'm guessing are to control mid and rear power take off(on/off). FWD, as you pointed out, would switch between 2wd/4wd, honestly had no idea this thing was 4wd. Shows how much I know about these things but it's close enough to working on a vehicle that I figured I'd get it going again for my MIL somehow, haha.

RANGE IS LIKELY THE GEAR YOU SELECT HI-LO RANGE FOR SPEED. IT MAY HAVE THREE RANGES. THE PTO LEVER IS TO SELECT WHICH ONE YOU WANT TO RUN. THERE MIGHT BE A SWITCH TO START THE PTO. I'VE NEVER RUN A NH SO I'M NOT SURE. MAYBE REMOTE IS SO YOU CAN MOW FROM YOUR FRONT PORCH!!!!

When you figure out what all those levers do and you get them all in the proper position the tractor might well start like it is supposed to.

Watched that video and a few other recommended videos and determined the following...

The black toggle switch with green light on the left side of the dash is cruise control.

REMOTE lever is for controlling the rear remote hydraulic, which isn't in use.

The MID PTO and REAR PTO levers are for power take off engage/disengage.

The FWD lever is for 2wd and 4wd.

The 3PT lever is hitch raise/lower.

The RANGE lever is the hydrostatic gear range. 1, 2, 3 and two neutrals.

Left pedal is clutch.

Right pedal is split brake.

Right rocker pedal is forward/reverse.

The bigger of the two PTO lights, the one that comes on when I try to start with key, I believe is the rear PTO so that should narrow the no-start with key issue down to a single killswitch. I'm pretty sure there is a video about troubleshooting this issue that I watched a few weeks ago that explained which killswitch it is under that left fender.

The fluid leak on the left side under the starter is a hydrostatic line that runs up to the hydrostatic cooler on front of the radiator. Didn't really pay attention to color/condition of the fluid earlier, so I have no idea if it needs flushed/refilled.

The hydraulic leak on one of the front boom hoses looked a bit milky, so the hydraulic system will need to be flushed/refilled after making all the needed hose/connector repairs.

Fortunately a friend of a friend is a tractor guy and said he'd tag along with me when I go out to my MIL's again next weekend to help me figure out what all it needs, get the right parts ordered, and help me get it going again.

They are actually all in the correct positions to start the tractor now that I know what they do, so there is definitely something wrong with the rear PTO kill switch.

It sounds like it would be a good idea to replace the hydraulic fluid and filter.
