CraiG,

I hope everything will go smother for you and your old/new tractor from now on. Not that I want to add to the list of problems, but I did experience a problem similar to yours but to a lesser extent.

I bought my 4110 in May 2003 and got it at the beginning of June 2003. After using it 3 times to cut the lawn, I noticed some fluid on the floor of the shed. I'm sure you can guess the type of fluid!. The more I used the tractor, more oil would leak out. I called my JD dealer and he came to pick the tractor a few days later. I had to get the old trusty Ford LGT145 out to cut the lawn since we were during the peak of the growth season. :so I had just spend all this money and there I was cutting the lawn with the old tractor. The neighboors must have been laughing! The next day, he calls me a tells me that he will need to break the tractor appart to fix the problem. I was very worried... A new tractor and it will be breaked in half? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
About a week later, he delivered my tractor back to me.
The next day I decide to cut some lawn to try it out. I set my PTO lever to mid PTO, lower the MMM, then I pull the PTO on/off knobb and Bam! Nothing happens! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I check my levers again, recyle the PTO knobb, still nothing! I get off the tractor to check under it to make sure I had attached the MMM PTO shaft. Everything was OK. Then I thought, what if I try the PTO lever to the rear PTO position instead? I set it to rear position and it worked!
I looked at the way the lever is attached to the tractor and I couldn't find a way to pull the pin to dettach it. The space it very tight. Anyway, now my PTO lever attached in the reverse maner /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I now have 37 hours on my 4110 and I haven't notice any leaking fluids. I just hope it stays like that!
I felt I had very good and quick service from my JD dealer. Even if my tractor had this "open heart surgery" I'm very happy with it.

I would think the dealer would be glad to rectify the PTO
problem.

On my 4210 there is a warning in the manual that corresponds
to the dealers warning about damage if the rear PTO lever is
engaged first and then the mid PTO lever is pulled. You have
to hit the mid one first then the rear if you are using
both.

This doesn't apply to your problem, but I would think some
sort of failsafe would be built in to this fancy electronic
transmission to prevent anyone from damaging it by pulling
the wrong PTO knob in the wrong order.

Of course I've found so many mistakes in this operators
manual, before I pull any lever on this for PTO operation I'll
probably set up the video camera to show JD when it lunches the trany!/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Once I got used to that it was like second nature to engage and disengage the mid PTO. Get a few hours on your machines and it will come naturally. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

O.K., I got my tractor back and was assured it was fixed and I would have no other problems. Guess what? I used it to snowblow and it died in less than an hour! It just stopped. At first I could restart it but after the third time it would not start. Yes there is fuel and it is too warm for the fuel to gel. All pto switches are off. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can try. I still have to do more snow removal and K.C. Canary is closed today.

Boy, I know that if that was my tractor I would be on the phone right now with the family friend! I would tell him to get his A$$ over right away with two things! A flatbed and his check book! I would want a full refund right away. I would tell him if all of the money spent was refunded you will not sue him and his dealership! Then run over to the Kubota dealership and get what you like! I don't know if there are that many more JD owners on this board, but I don't recall hearing of many major problems with Kubota tractors. That is one of the reasons I got mine.

Your 1st post was dated 2/3/2004 and your last post was dated 2/22/2004 and the problem is still not fixed ????
I would be one unhappy dude if it was me.I would be checking my options from a legal stand point. I feel your pain, I have had problems with my JD 4400 and it is frustrating at times to say the least.
Can you arrange for a meeting with a John Deere represenative above the dealership ?

Is it turning over but not firing or is it not turning over at all?

Just a thought, it happened to me last summer... Do you have the MFWD engaged? My 4110 won't start (the motor dosen't turn) if the MFWD is engaged.

The 4310 starts with MFWD on or off. During the snow season my MFWD is left on all the time and it has no starting problems.
