Need help with plow?

I picked up plow last night was in perfecy shap everything was free and has grease zerks. Can anyone tell me what this wheel is for?

Plowed my food plots with it went great did hook a few tree roots but never hurt anything, I didnt plow very deep no rocks. Here is a few pic's of my cat plowing.

the wheel is for edge and to keep plow from wanting to walk sideways or be pulled too far sideways.

I'm coming into this pretty late. I have an economy Dearborn 2x16 plow with the rolling coulters....and it's similar to your plow. That wheel on the back is called a rolling landslide. You can put a "shine" on your moldboards by plowing in some sandy soils.

I used my plow just a little....and determined I was doing more harm than good with it. My black dirt doesn't run very deep.....and by plowing I was putting the black dirt down and the sandy soil up. I decided to use my tiller more and my plow less....and confine my tillage to the top few inches.....fwiw.

Still.....I like my plow.

Isn't it landSIDE? Although I don't know why it's side and not SLIDE.
