Hello all,

Its been a while since I posted and this year marks the 10th year since I got my 2305. I just got the machine serviced and it has been a wonderful tractor for me, I have put it through more than it was likely designed for. However, the last 10 years has not been kind on my back and I do have to bush hog about 5 acres grass in places 6' tall. Also, my wife would like me to mow the tall grass more than once per year. As it stands now, I can't do all of the mowing in one day. The small tires of my 2305 do not take my uneven ground well (and that means my back does not take the ground very well either). I am giving serious thought to buying a larger tractor in the next year or two to

1. be able to power a rough cutter larger than 4 feet--6 feet would be ideal

2. be able to move more quickly while mowing, along with a larger deck this would reduce my overall mowing times

3. take the uneven ground better, hopefully meaning I can cut easier and do it more often

If money were no object, then I would get the 3039 no questions asked. But I would also like this to be my last tractor I buy. As of right now, implements include a loader, RFM, LX4, 4' box blade, a really cheap Chinese grader blade I use for clearing snow on our 400' gravel driveway and a 4' flail mower that I just love, but can't imagine getting rid of/nor actually using on a much larger tractor.

In addition to the bush hogging, I would also want to use it as a finish mower (mid-mount) and grader blade at the minimum. Maybe more appropriately sized flail mower in the future.

So with this long ended introductions, I am really wanting to know from others what the ride is like on the 2032, 3033, and 3039. Also, what sized rotary cutter could I use on each of the mowers. Such as, can the 2032 swing a 6' rotary cutter? (seems borderline) and how much better would the 3033 be over the 2032.

Thanks in advance for all your input,

I ran a 6" brush hog on my 4310 with no problems, PTO horse power was at the bottom of the recommenced by Deere for that brush hog, but it did OK.
I think any of the tractors your looking at will fit the bill.

The 30 series are nice sized tractors.

I have a 3046R cab at the dealer waiting for the FEL, I want the 165 loader, and all they stock is the 160, so the 165 is a special order.

Sounds to me that you should have had one of these about 9 years ago.

But with that said, your back damage is done. :( With this new tractor probably being your last tractor, if at all possible get the 3039R. Lots of power and your cutting will be so so much easier. Now of course this en-tales all new implements, Yes the 3033R will do everything that the 3039R will do, but not as fast.

Good luck with your decision.

MtnViewRanch,

Actually, I do have an after market seat. A 2305 does not leave a lot of room to play with, but my new seat is a lot better than my original.

A suspension seat?

Not a true suspension seat--you can only get the seating position so high before you feel very uneasy. But the replacement was a much better fit than the orriginal

kubota 2350 and others,

Could you describe your rough mowing experience with the 4310 and a 6' bush hog? I have been told that tractors like the 2032 and 3033 will run a 6' rough cutter but you will have to go slowly through the grass & weeds. Is this true or does the speed reduction matter much? Right now my 2305 with a LX4 will mow even tall, thick grass without much hesitation. I am really hoping to dramatically speed up my mowing speed and I hope that a 6' rough cutter will cut a wider path faster than I currently mow. Also, how well do these tractors with larger tires run over rough ground? do they smooth out the bumps and dips better than my 2305? Please don't get me wrong, I have loved my 2305--it really punched above its weight and frankly handled tasks I should have reserved for a larger tractor, like clearing out my woods after a rather strong storm with sustained 100 MPH winds.

Final question: how stable are these tractors on steep ground. some of my acreage is hilly. My 2305 is pretty stable on this ground but I still need to be careful on slopes and avoid mowing parallel to the slope as much as possible. Will any of the tractors I mentioned (2032, 3033, 3039) be more or less stable than I already own?

I know this is a lot to ask, but I want to get as many informed opinions before I make this purchase as I really want this to be the last tractor I ever buy. When I bought my 2305, I did so because money was tight but I needed to have a machine to rough cut and clear snow from our 400' driveway. I have no regrets about my 2305, but I do need a faster mower with a smoother ride.

I really appreciate input and I thank you in advance. I may not purchase for 1-2 years so I have time to consider.

Once again, Thanks in advance

I don't think you will be getting a smooth ride from ANY tractor regardless of size. I have a 70 HP utility and it is still just as rough as my B26 Kubota. None of them have suspension that give, just a bit larger tires but they don't necessarily give that much when aired up to carry front end loader weights.
Getting a larger frame tractor might allow you to get a nice air ride suspension seat which will be of more use than anything else in smoothing the ride.
As far as power to turn a rotary mower, the 5 PTO HP per foot rule is generally enough to run 6+ MPH for all but the toughest conditions. Due to the weight of some of the heavy duty models, you may need to check the tractors lift capacity, add front weights etc to make it safe to operate even if adequate power is available.

Gary,

That is very useful input. I am certainly not expecting a luxury ride, but I have heard (and it does make sense) that a larger tire negotiates rough ground better than a smaller one that reacts to virtually every little bump and dip in the ground. As I plan to operate, I will have a loader w/ bucket for extra front weight, and I can always find extra weight to throw into the bucket should the loader itself be insufficient.

Just so I understand, my current 2305 (18 PTO HP) should be insufficient to run a 4' blade at speed correct? Not only does it run the LX4, it does so with gusto and if anything is overpowered. Perhaps my 2305 can't get up to 6 MPH. Honestly, I don't know what the max or normal mowing speed is and this may be the reason I have no trouble turning my little LX4.

Thanks for the input though, I really appreciate the experiences from people who operate machines larger than my little SCUT.

I just have to weigh in here. I feel that there is a big difference with how these tractors ride. I have a 12,000lb 75hp tractor and a 5000lb 32hp tractor. It was huge difference, day and night IMO after I filled the tires, all 4 tires of each tractor. While both tractors ride relatively good IMO, the ride of the larger tractor is by far better than the smaller one.

One other thing, again just my opinion, out in the open field my larger tractor is FAR more comfortable to operate with the loader off of the tractor. I can't say about the smaller unit, I don't use it out on the field.

Just my :2cents: based on what I have and do with them.
