Any chance there is a rental place near you that has a 3000 series tractor? By me the john deere's and yanmar seem to be popular rentals. Or sometimes a good dealer will allow you to try one out first.

JMER817,

That is a very good idea and I did look that route 10 years ago when I bought the 2305. Unfortunately, the local rentals in the area are using other tractors. Great idea if only.

kubota 2350 and others,

Could you describe your rough mowing experience with the 4310 and a 6' bush hog? I have been told that tractors like the 2032 and 3033 will run a 6' rough cutter but you will have to go slowly through the grass & weeds. Is this true or does the speed reduction matter much? Right now my 2305 with a LX4 will mow even tall, thick grass without much hesitation. I am really hoping to dramatically speed up my mowing speed and I hope that a 6' rough cutter will cut a wider path faster than I currently mow. Also, how well do these tractors with larger tires run over rough ground? do they smooth out the bumps and dips better than my 2305? Please don't get me wrong, I have loved my 2305--it really punched above its weight and frankly handled tasks I should have reserved for a larger tractor, like clearing out my woods after a rather strong storm with sustained 100 MPH winds.

Final question: how stable are these tractors on steep ground. some of my acreage is hilly. My 2305 is pretty stable on this ground but I still need to be careful on slopes and avoid mowing parallel to the slope as much as possible. Will any of the tractors I mentioned (2032, 3033, 3039) be more or less stable than I already own?

I know this is a lot to ask, but I want to get as many informed opinions before I make this purchase as I really want this to be the last tractor I ever buy. When I bought my 2305, I did so because money was tight but I needed to have a machine to rough cut and clear snow from our 400' driveway. I have no regrets about my 2305, but I do need a faster mower with a smoother ride.

I really appreciate input and I thank you in advance. I may not purchase for 1-2 years so I have time to consider.

Once again, Thanks in advance

The biggest problem with a 6' brush hog on my 4310 was the horse power of the PTO, the 6' cutter said it needed a minimum of 25 HP, the 4310 Hydro is rated at just a tad over that.

It cut good, just not warp speed.

This is one of the few times I feel qualified to post. Last summer I traded my 2720 for a 3033r I had the 3033 for about two months and traded it for a 3039r(long story I'll post it later). The 2720 is basically a 2032r retagged so I've owned all three of the tractors your looking at. I can tell you that stepping up to the three series is a huge leap. My 2720 was a great little tractor but both the three series tractors out perform it by a mile. I got the 165 loader and it was money well spent. The threes ride better, and mow faster than my 2720 did by a mile. Both of the three series tractors have a suspension seat on them that is not an air seat but really improves my comfort. I have a five foot cutter and they both handle it with ease I don't see any problem with either of them handling a six footer. I know the 3033 has about the same hp as the 2032 but it felt a lot stronger than the two series. I feel like they turn better too. So I don't think you will go wrong with either three series tractors. If money is not an issue go with the 39 its noticeably stronger than the 33. Hope this helps! MGunny

Well, based on this thread and a couple of test drives on a dealer lot, I added a used 3039r. About a 100 hours Love it. Ride is better and the power handles a 6' hog well. It is more stable than the 2305, which I kept for the yard near the house

We are also looking at 30 or the 40 series from JD. Not having the $$ yet, we looked into renting one from our dealer who said they'll do rent them for whole season, not weeks like we hoped to do. So we checked with another tractor brand/dealership near here, who quoted us $750 per week. That price was a bit more than we could afford. Thanks to all who are posting there thoughts on this.

Ok, it has been a while since I last added to this thread and I have a small update. I am no longer considering the jd2032, but I am giving very serious thought to the jd2038. My reasoning is that it looks small enough to mow the lawn. But large enough and powerful enough to mow the field. It also comes with some nice bells and whistles like a suspension seat, a drive over mower and good ergonomics. Though I have not ruled out a 3 series tractor, the 2038r may hit the sweet spot. I would really love to try one out but the local dealer has no 2038's on the lot. My timeframe for buying is about 18 months so I have time. Does JD bring in new equipment for tests? I saw that several people posted after I did so I thought I would revive the thread. Thanks in advance for your input.

$750 a week?...you could buy a 3046R with Deluxe Cab for $800 a month and the free 60 month financing

On the other hand, if you own a farm you can deduct that $750 a week under your Schedule F which might make sense if you only need it for several weeks a year
