Need Input on rotary cutter/ boxblade

Well, the Bush Hog site says the RBX720's MAXIMUM 4WD HP is 40. You've got 39 - as I read it, that means you will be fine.

On the 286, the gearbox is rated to 110 HP so you're good there. The recommended HP is 40 though. One thing to note, the Bush Hog 286 has a CAT II hitch and you do not. Not sure how that would be overcome.

Whatcha cutt'n that requires such a heavy duty rotary?

Probably just over doing it like I do everything else. Though the name of the place I live is called Rock Fork and it didn't get that name for not having no rocks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

… size of box blade and brush hog for my L3830….

If you have wide open fields to keep down, with the brush on the lighter side… go with a 6’ rotary cutter… if you have lots of brush go with the 285 series MD rotary cutter (excellent cutter… will last you a lifetime!) as you only have 30.5 PTO hp to work with… (don’t go by misleading engine “gross” horsepower with PTO driven implements… the numbers are meaningless)

I’d probably go with a MD 6’ boxblade… with a strong A-frame, the more bulk weight… the better… /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For what it is worth. I've got an L3710. I use a 6' King Kutter rotary with no problem, though it is one of the lighter weight cutters. Haven't done any REAL heavy cutting, but on long pasture grass the engine RPM doesn't even change, even going uphill. I've got a 6' Bush Hog box (SBX720 I think). It's just a little wider than the rear wheels, and the 3PT has no problem lifting it. If you want the box to work for you, weight is the trick. So get one with at least 3/8" side plates.

John's right - the numbers are very confusing. I don't see why the impliment mfg. don't just come out and say PTO Horsepower? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Reading the chart again shows the 285 as the only mid duty cutter that will work.

Interesting side note. My cousin's husband (what does that make him) pulls a 6 foot rottary cutter that's very light duty. Smallest gear box you ever saw. But it cuts two inch saplings like they're not even there. No idea what brand it is. It's been painted a million times and it's as old as dirt.

Can a Cat I hitch be converted to Cat II?

The Implement chart on the Kubota website shows both 65" and the 72" box blade as matched to the full line of Lxx30 tractors. I would certainly go with the one that would cover your tracks.

I'm not 100% sure if I understand your question correctly but here goes...

You can buy bushings that let you adapt to CAT II. For example my HTL(Hydraulic Top Link) is a CAT II. The tractor 3pt and attachments are all CAT I. Just slip in the bushing to the CAT II item and use you CAT I stuff.

That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks.

On second thought? If the hitch is Cat II, then all you need is a bushing - makes sense. But what if you are starting out with a Cat I? You'll need a larger hole for a Cat II impliment - right? Is there a bushing in the Cat I hitch that can be removed so a large bushing can be installed? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

So you think 30.5 hp would be alright for the med duty?
