I've found most people want to negotiate some but how it's done is the key...

Buying usually takes a lot of time with conversation and discussing family and the economy with little tidbits from time to time about the item for sale.:) Buying and selling is fun with some people...

No one gets insulted. It's just the way it is.:)

Well stated post, thanks. It's not much in my nature to haggle, but financial reality sometimes drives you to it. Yeah, I would never insult anyone with an unrealistically low offer. If I'm gonna go fishing, I'd rather it be for bass.

Hey Sam, I've looked at some used JD locally, but haven't found anything in the ballpark w/ 4WD. Don't know if CC has any 4WD models, do they? I'm afraid of spinning the wheels on the hill here in wet grass. Ami, maybe I'm wrong, but I think I have a better chance of saving some money buying privately instead of from a dealer. Yes, I know the potential pitfalls of doing so.

Thanks, yeah this one's got the loader (which I've got on the BX25 and don't need), which I think will jack up the final bid beyond my budget. I'll watch it, though.

Just for fun, I called the dealer I bought the BX25 from last year. He'll sell me a new 1860 with 54" mower...with tax, just under $12,000...gulp. Even with 60mo. 0%, that's a lot for a lawn mower.:)

Give Brady Barlow a call. I am less than that for a new BX1860 with 54MM and loader including delivery to CT from KY ;)

1000 hours would be a concern for me. I know they'll do 2000 usually at least before rebuild and some times longer and sometimes alot longer. Here's Kubotas MSRP for a new one with 0% financing but only offers a 54" mowing deck. I believe the new one can be bought for between $9 and $10 thousand. Would you rather have new for $2500 to $3000 more, interest free fo 60 months? If not, I think you can find a used one with less hours for that money.
http://kubotaproducts.bigmachines.com/commerce/new_equipment/products/model_configs.jsp The link isn't working but just do this then go to home and configure a new BX1860 with MMM.

I would be concerned at 10,000hrs, 1,000hrs a BX could do that even with bare maintenence (oil filters, grease ect).
Good luck hunting I'm sure something will shoe up in the price range you are seeking

1*I have a loader on my BX23 but I have seen times when an extra loader would be nice.
Too bad I can't dump the BH into the loader on the front of the BX23.
2*When I bought my BXs in late 2007 my local dealer priced a new 1850 with 54" mower to me for $9100.
3*But not bad for a real tractor.

Ok, this is kind of what I've always thought about the hours, so I'm glad to hear confirmation. And I can tell the owner has treated it right...used it, for sure, but maintained it by the book.

Still, I have since found some better deals, so I think I would simply offer less if I decide to go that way.

Right now I'm waiting to hear back from Brady Barlow about his price on a new BX1860, 54" mower, turf tires and loader valve + delivery. If he were to really knock my socks off, along with the 60 mo/0%...who knows, a new machine might make sense.

But there are some really great deals out there on sales by private owners.
