I would check the serial number and double check the described condition. Do not under any circumstances put any deposit on it before looking at it. I didn't listen to a couple people who told me the same thing and I got taken for a few hundred over it so admittedly I'm a little bitter. Objectively speaking, its probably that he sells whatever he gets and calls all of it "perfect working condition" without looking too hard at it. Which is how quite a few dealers operate.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one with 1000 hours.

1000 hours would be a concern for me.

Spyderlk
, the size did attract me for mowing. Maybe the 1500's tranny isn't cut out for the heavier stuff, idk...I'll watch for your progress on that.
Well, I got word back from the shop. The transmission checks out ok via external hyd pressure ports, so the problem is mechanical. The mechanic has talked to Kubota and they believe it is a broken cradle bearing. Near as I can tell that supports the internal point linking the pedal to the variable displacement pump. The mechanic was puzzled as to a cause of it breaking. He said "maybe repeated slamming the pedal forward to reverse could do it". That has never happened .. or maybe once - who knows.:confused2: ... It does bring up a worry about quick stops and starts tho. [Theres a thread about some models that do wheelies when you let off while backing up.] What its looking like is a component that is fragile in relation to its function. I expect this will start showing up in hi hour tractors that people use firmly, thinking they are as strong as they act. I thot these transmissions were inherently self protecting via the hydraulic relief settings.:(

The BX1500 is a two cylinder diesel. From my experience with Kubota 2 cylinder engines, it will be a little noisier and vibrate more in use.
The BX1800 is a three cylinder, similar to the BX2200 but with less displacement.
From experience with my BX2200, with over 2311 hrs, it will have a more pleasing tone and be smoother running.
It's just my opinion and I could be wrong of course.
Good luck.

Ok now my neighbour has BX1500 for 8 years, I have my Bx1860 for past month. He mows grass, clears snow, grades his yard, drive way and did for my neighbour. We tied rope to his tractor and pulled tree while cutting. Atleast for all these purposes 1500 never showed any slow down and I honestly dont see much differece between these two.

Just my 2 cents for what ever it's worth. If all you need the second tractor for is to mow 3/4's of an acre and tow some stuff around would it make more sense to buy something like a Cub or JD garden tractor? I love my BX for the tough work but I still use my 25-year-old Cub 1210 for mowing and dragging things around. You can pick up a good Cub for under a $1000.00

I got my mid-90's Kubota G1800S (S=4 wheel steering) for $2200. The hours were unknown, as the hour meter died at 53, but it runs fine. It has a 16 HP 3-cylinder diesel engine, so its in the same league as the BX1500 on power. My particular one has a 48" deck (which is a good thing for my property, as I can get in smaller places with it), but the 54" deck is more common, and the G1900 (same tractor, but with 18HP) usually comes with a 60" deck. The 4 wheel steering is great for going around obstacles, and turning around in smaller spaces. At the time I bought this, I debated selling the B7100 that I had at the time, and just buying a BX to do everything, but it is nice to not swap out the deck and loader. I now have a B7610 ( a little bigger, and can lift more than a BX) for most non-mowing duty, including snow removal, and moving firewood (which it does better than a BX would, because of its larger size and lifting capacity), and use the G1800S for mowing , and towing my 5x8 utility trailer around the property when doing cleanup. I'm making a debris fork for the B7160, so having two machines will be much better than one for all jobs, as I'll be able to move the trailer with the G1800, and load it with the B7610.

So, in summary, the G1800 is as good a mower for my purposes as the BX would be, for a lot less money.

I think the big differentiator of a BX vs. a good garden tractor (not talking about box store crap here, talking about Kubota G or GR series, or the JD's not sold at box stores) is the 3PH hitch, 540 RPM PTO, and FEL capability.

Of course, my G1800S is a mid-90's machine, and new price on the current high-end GT's can run as much as a new BX1860, used prices also can be high as used BX's. The advantages of some of these machines (over the BX) in mowing is lighter weight and tighter turning radius (in the case of the
GR2110, or the JD's available 4WS).

So, if you want a dedicated mower (and maybe to save a little money over a BX), you might want to get a used high-end GT that can do a little more. If you want another good all-around machine that can do it all (maybe, just without a loader, or even with), then go for the BX.

Keep us posted, and post pictures of what you get.

EDIT -- OP -- I just noticed in your post that you wanted 4WD. The GR2110 is 4WD, as are some of the high-end JD GT's.

1*I have a loader on my BX23 but I have seen times when an extra loader would be nice.
Too bad I can't dump the BH into the loader on the front of the BX23.

LB -- you have plenty of Kubotas, now you need a small dump truck to dump the BH into. Maybe get an RTV1100 with power dump -- then you'll have four Kubotas ! :D:D

1*Kubota used to make 3 different BXs.
They were BX2230 BX1830 and BX1500.
The BX2230 and the BX1830 were the same tractors especially size wise.
The difference was the BX2230 had 22 HP and the BX1830 had 18HP.
The BX1500 was a 2 cyl with 15HP.
It was a bit shorter than the other two and has smaller wheels and tires
With the introduction of the BX2350 the BX1830 was eliminated a long with the BX1500.
Thus leaving 1 tractor that is the same size as the former BX2230.
The former BX1500 was given the 3 Cyl engine of the discontinued BX1830 and was then introduced as the BX1850.
The BX1850 and todays BX1860 are basicaly the former Smaller BXs with smaller wheels and tires but now have a 3 Cyl 18 HP engine instead of a 15HP 2 Cyl.
As you can see from this we are now offered 2 choices instead of 3 on a BX.
2*I have 2 BX1500s and 1 BX23 I find this only when the BX1500s are at idle; so i simply throttle up a little . When mowing tilling or operating I find the 2cyl BX1500s as quiet and smooth as my 3cyl BX23.
3*The BX 1800and BX1830 were discouned.
4*see #2*
5*My experence sure has been different than yours.
See #2

1*I'd love to have a 1 ton SRW with a dump flat bed.

2*I loaded this little truck 35 times with my BX FEL and emptied it with a load handler in the bed

3*new price on the current high-end GT's can run as much as a new BX1860.:D
3*That's why my Kubota dealer don't stock them because the BX1830 is more tractor for about the same money

4* The only difference between A BX1500 and a BX1860 is the BX1500 has a 15 HP 2 Cyl and the BX1860 has an 18 HP 3 Cyl motor.

The load handler is a great tool isn't it. I've had mine for about 10 years now. It isn't as nice as a dump truck, but WAY better than shoveling a load of dirt, mulch or gravel off a pickup truck.

It sure is .
I just can't imagine unloading the little truck 35 times with a shovel.
