SKS'S!!!!!!!!!!!
For all of those that have never shot an SKS!!!
I've owned plenty of gun's in my mere 37 years and we now own at this moment 2 30-06's, one 1894 30-30,one .357 w/6"barrel.one ruger p95 ruger 9mm,one remington .270, 2 sks's,and oh yeah..one ruger 10/22..- I AM TOTALLY IN AGREEMENT WITH ROY
The 3 most versatile gun's(parts you can buy in any good gun catalog) that "I have ever seen"..are the ar-15 .223 ...ruger 10-22 and THE SKS!!! When I lived in alabama i would take my sks's with open sights and 30 round clips and measure in the north pasture..50,100,200,300,400,and 500 yards with stakes and orange flag tape... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
About 50 1 and 2 liter bottles full of water and about 100 soda cans and 1000 rounds of sks military rounds and u wanna talk about some fun!!!!ever shoot 60 rounds from the hip with 2 rifles with big clips in about 20 seconds!!!!
U"D feel like rambo ...believe me u!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Now i understand that u have a .270...so do we..and as a matter of fact my better half jist about shot the head off her last deer 4 years ago at 240 -250 yards ..yes we measured it!! with open sights !!! The .270 is a great gun and i can hit a 2 liter bottle full of water with it at 300 every time!! SO can i with my sks!!! One of my friends has a highly modified ar-15 with night vision and a silencer( yes he has the licenesing) and he can hit coyotes from his upstairs cupola in the middle of the night at 300yds.. up his power line where he puts all his road kill that he picks up..WITHOUT A SOUND...BELIEVE ME IT SOUNDS LIKE AN AIR POWERED RIFLE GOIN OFF!!! THATS IT!!!

The thing i love bout the sks....NOPE let me put it to you like this ...If we were ever invaded militarily and they were coming thru maine!!!!!!!there would b 3 guns that would be on my horse as i went out 2 defend my neck of the woods!!!SERIOUSLY!! ...My sks ,my 10-22 and my nine...and you want to talk bout gorilla warfare!!!
When i lived in england my old girlfriend's boss(whom i lived with) had a bolt action .22 with a 3x9 scope..i think it was a feiwbarku or something like that ..i think it was german?? it would shoot short and long rimfire rounds and all he and i would shoot was shorts...he ,his wife and his son lived in a little cottage with a thatched roof that had 2 stories and it was set along a creek bank with a long steep hill on the back side (where i used to shoot out of the upstairs hallway window) of the house that the crest of that hill was close to a mile away...
and all along that hill were metal pig sheds..(and oh yeah ..the rifle had a screw on 8" silencer) Now a .22 short rimfire is as about as quiet as you can git...but add the silencer and you cant hear a thing...after about 100 rounds and carefully practicing and using the scope and the elevation hash marks you can hit jist about anything from a long distance away..England ..and especially in pig and cow (pasture) country there is an incredible overpopulation of rabbits!! So much to the point that the gov't actually introduced a disease that it will make a rabbit go blind within 2 yrs of it's life... but even so they are so prolific that the farmer would give me a gallon of hard cider for every 5 rabbits that i shot..Let me put it to ya'll like this ..He nicknamed the Jesse James of the 20th century!!....little di he know that i would jist sit up on the 2nd story window of my friends house that by the way had 3 foot thick walls (cob..built about 500 years ago(and that was my benchrest) and sharpshoot the rabbits with .22 shorts and a silencer).....In the early morning hours when i woke up the field would b literally covered with rabbits!!! After about 3 weeks the population for some ???strange?? reason seemed to dwindle!!! Guess who >>ME!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif SSSSOOOOOOO!!!
What 2 say..if i can reach out and touch rabbits at 1/2 a mile (one mile is 1760 yards) with .22 shorts U MY FRIEND NEED A SCOPE)!!!!!!or a bunch of practice... That is the beauty of guns that u can CHEAP!!!CHEAP!!!CHEAP!!!! ammo for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PRACTICE!!PRACTICE!!PRACTICE!!!
My point...Try buying a 1000 ronnds and jist shootin it off!!
if u r $$$ conservative ..GIT a ruger 10/22.. YOU can buy bipods....synthetic stocks ....high powered scopes that deal with windage and elevation easily!! THe biggest trick is to practice with what u have ..git a high-powered scope...!!! and set out some cans and have at it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know u have the rifle that'll take care of the problem..PERIOD!!~!!!........... BUT if u want a lot less cost on ammo ....and wanna have fun git a ruger 10/22 and PRACTICE TILL U CAN'T MISS..PERIOD!!!!!......I dont care what anyone on this forum has to say on this matter because u take a trip up here to maine to do some campin and fishin
and i'll show show you how to hit a slow movin target like a wood chuck at 300 to 500 yards with a low cost high volume round capability gun like a 10/22 or an sks in 2 days...If I can do it ...so can u!! otherwise git a 1000 round's of .270's (that'll cost u) BIGTIME...and git it right ....the .270 is an awesome riflebut it sounds like you really need the scope.. but u don't need to feed a gun like that a lot of $$$$$$$$$$ git a 10/22 or an sks(I git 1000 rounds at about $$100 ) at .10 or less a shot and you'll have a lot of fun puttin soda cans all over your field and once you get used to the bounce of a can movin after being shot and and anticipatin the next one that you'll learn how 2 literally make it dance all over the place!!!!!!!!
ALL MY LOVE AND GOD BLESS!!!
TODD
p.s. I will elaborate on the advantages of an sks in an update soon....nato. rounds ,maintenance, upkeep, durability underfire, all the ins and out and such
