Thanks for informative posts. My gut feeling is the same as most stated here, better safe than sorry. However I found it interesting that the service man at the dealership I bought it from said it was not needed. I am into a very lengthy project landscaping now and I am trying to plan ahead (16 more hours to the magic 50 hr mark). The weather here is great but will not last forever. I am trying to get some grass in before the fall (September here). I need to brush up on the posts I saved for just this purpose.

how do you guys feel about amsoil synthetic tranny fluid??

If you are talking about their Synthetic Tractor
Hydraulic/Transmission Oil yes, it is fine for SUDT or UDT applications. There regualr car tranny oil is not approved for UDT etc.

I will be using this in 10 hours on my BX22 since the syntheitc Amsoil is cheaper the SUDT! Can you say Kubota oil is a HUGE mark up! Plus Amsoil like all 100% synthetic has a lower pour point (which effect pumping temp), great ball test etc...

But use what you like.

I know the mechanic that works on the Kubota's at the dealer personally, I kind of liken him to the "Maytag repair man". He mostly does preps on new units and routine maintenance for customers who don't do it themselves.

I asked him about the difference between UDT and Super UDT and he told me that "The only difference is the ability of Super UDT to maintain it's viscosity in cold weather". Being the fact that you live in the "igloo" state, I'd use the Super. As far as chainging the fluid, that's a crapshoot. I change hydro filters at 50 and then change the UDT and filters at 200, then 400 and so on. The engine oil and filter is 50, 100, 150,200 and so on. I use my unit in a commercial enviroment so I grease it every morning before I start it up. At that time I check the fluid levels and fuel it too. Ther has been numerous discussions on engine oil but I use 1200 Delvac. I buy my fluids in bulk, it's cheaper that way. I stay away from synthetics. Synthetic lubricants have their place like in gear boxes and rearends on class 8 trucks where changing the lubricant can be diffucult, but changing oil in your tractor is as easy as removing a plug. I'd rather change often if it's easy to do and use petroleum based oils.

All the additives are much the same since they do the same things, e.g., raise cetane, prevent gelling, etc. Buy the cheapest one you can find, which will probably be Power Service at your local TSC. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Are you sure about that. It seems to me that it was about $60 for five gallons. Thats about the same or a little more than SUDT from the local dealer. Am I wrong here?

This thread is VERY interesting and informative. As I am approaching 50 hours on the B7800 I am looking at the maintenance requirements.

I think I'll stick with the manufacturers requirements. I spent a lot of money on this investment and I'll have a clear mind when I am using it at 51 hours.

I'll just have to do without a couple
<ul type="square"> [*]of burgers, starbuck runs and beer bashes [/list] for a while. But at least my hydro fluid will be the clear and the best.

Really, as others have stated, why blow the warrenty, if it comes to that, possibly never, you did the right thing.

Now that I am convinced to change the transmission/hydraulic fluid I called around to check on availability of the orange elixer of excellence ( super udt). The local Kubota dealer uses the Chevron THF 1000. It is available at a local dealer for 35$/5 gal or the all weather stuff for about $54/gal. My options are to use this or have Super UDT shipped up from the lower 48 which will bring the price to well over $100 including shipping. I am seriously thinking of using the Chevron product after having seen the specs you posted and talking to the dealers.

The Chevron stuff, I believe, is UDT. Chevron/Texaco makes it for Kubota and packages it in those cute, black 2.5 gallon jugs.

I went to my local supplier and talked to them. They are going to get a 55 gallon drum for me, I believe. I don't have the cost per gallon yet, when I do, I'll post it.
