Tractor Sizing Need to Upgrade

You fellas sure know how to make a guys head spin! Ha!

Ya I haven't decided on what tranny I want yet. I will definitely be doing some food plotting so I will be working some ground so I'm kinda scared to go the HST route. Kind of leaning towards the shuttle shift or power shuttle. Is there a big difference in terms of maintenance or wear and tear between the two?
Again it depends on how much you are going to use it or abuse it. Used to be above 50HP Kubota didn't offer HST. I've both, B7610 w/ HST, M4700 shuttle shift. If I was going to be doing a lot of short travel FEL work (moving piles in a warehouse, loading gravel on a truck) I'd definitely prefer HST. Plowing, bushhogging gear is fine.
I don't know if I would really need a quick detach loader. I can't think of many reasons why I would need to take it off.
As RoaDeere wrote a Quick Attach Adapter will be worth it if you want Bucket, Bale spear, Pallet Forks, Root grapple, etc. out front. For most tractors you can get a pin on EXAMPLE .
Cab would be nice but I'd rather spend that money on attachments at this point. Gonna need a bigger rotary cutter. Want a disc, drill, 4 row planter, cultipacker, and on and on!

Definitely want adjustable 3pt arms.
Cabs have their drawbacks in the woods. THE FIRST ATTACHMENT you should plan on is some form of PEC or quick hitch for the 3 pt. When you move up to bigger implements you will probably either have to spend a lot more time in the gym "beefing up" or get some way to hook up the 3 pt equipment better. Implements that weigh 800 lbs require more "oomph" to nudge around.

And not to be an advertiser for Barlow equipment check out this thread

Do you need to cut "lawn"?
Do you have a mud season?
Are you planning to have a vegetable garden?
Would your Yanmar be better suited to those jobs - if they are in your plans?

Here is a picture of the 1702 next to the CT 225. The people that mentioned the cab are spot on. I had never used a cab beforeand did not realize how useful they can be. Not sure what climate you have but you can get cabs with heat and AC plus they offer bug protection. My property is a little smaller than yours so this tractor fits me perfect and would probably get you by if it's all your budget will allow. But for the size of acreage you're mentioning I think you're on the right track for the 45 to 55 hp range. But do yourself a favor get the factory cab with the heat and AC right off the bat.

The ct225/ck27 is a nice tractor. But, no offense, it is much too small to do the work he is talking about in this thread. For safety reasons alone, that tractor should not be moving 1000 pound bales. And forget about wet or larger bales.

..................................................

I didn't think there would need to be clarification on this, but when I mentioned quick detach loader, I was speaking about the entire loader assembly being easy and quick to detach and reattach to the tractor. Skid steer quick attach plates are, in my opinion, necessities and a given these days. I can't imagine having a tractor without a skid steer quick attach mounting plate.

No I won't be cutting any lawn with the new purchase. If the Yanmar had a mid mount mower I'd for sure keep it. The finish mower it has now is a 60" King Cutter and is really a tad to big for the 18hp Yanmar diesel. It will get bogged down when I get in wet thick stuff.

Not sure what you mean by mud season. I live in Mid Missouri and there are times when it gets muddy.

I probably will have a garden but don't see where the new purchase couldn't do what the Yanmar did with the tiller.

If you have enough storage space for both your new, bigger machine and your Yanmar, so might want to hold off selling the Yanmar until you've determined that you won't miss it too much. Sounds like a great machine that might be very hard to replace economically, once it's sold.

I've found that our larger machine (5500 lbs with FEL & nothing on the 3pt hitch) with R1s really makes a mess unless the ground is either frozen or somewhat dry.
During our mud season (after a long thaw or after a week of rain) I prefer to use a smaller tractor if I can.
Less compaction and rutting (the turf tires really help, too).
In the vegetable garden, the smaller tractors allow narrower row spacing.
They are also much more maneuverable and allow turning around ni much less space, at the end of a row, once the garden fence is up.

I second the vote to keep the Yanmar.

Kubota MX 5100 / MX 5200
John Deere 5055E
Mahindra 5530
LS U5030

Kioti DK55
Massey 1655

There is a list of about the size that would be perfect, especially if you kept your Yanmar and implements for smaller jobs.

All in favor of keeping the little Yanmar, YES

PS I'm not thrilled about selling my Little old B7200, but as I have bought its replacement, i will. You do not have a replcement 'Little" tratcor, and believee me you will miss not having it.

No disrespect taken and I appreciate the input. Don't really plan on having much cattle. Neighbor has 35 acres I could rent and continue to hay my place... idk. Nothing is set in stone other than I know I need a bigger tractor to manage my property and I'd like for that tractor to be able to move a round bale from where the hay guy leaves it into where I would keep half a dozen cow/calfs or so to feed them during winter.

I wish I had a picture, but alas, I do not. My neighbor built a 2 wheel trailer with a bale stabber and 12V winch to pick up and transport big bales before he got a tractor big enough to do the task on it's own. Once the bale was lifted it applied weight to the tongue of the trailer so he could easily pull it around.

Sorry, kinda got off the tractor purchase idea. Just sayin, there are ways around all obstacles. Your Yanmar would pull that trailer. :)

I too vote to keep the Yanmar at least until you have the larger tractor for a while and are sure you wont use the Yanmar for anything. Given the money you're talking about spending, the $3K you might get form the Yanmar isn't that big a difference. But $3K could buy implements and you did mention that.

Agree with others that you don't need a Utility tractor and that a large frame CUT should work fine. It also sounds like you don't need anything fancy (like HST). If that is the case, you can sometimes find new large frame gear driven CUTS with loaders for under $20K. I know... I did... And that leaves a lot of money in your budget for implements without even selling the Yanmar!

2 years ago I sold a 44hp Kubota because I needed a bigger tractor. Then I bought a 95hp Kubota. This Winter I bought a 47hp Ford to replace the Kubota I should have kept. It's a vicious circle..... :)

After doing a bit of research I'm really leaning towards an LS XR4046 or XR4040. I wish I could find an R4047 but I can't seem to find any of the R series left for sale.
