I got my f350 for under $2000. Needed tires and that's about it. Minor things here and there. I wouldn't spend much on a truck

I even have a spare cummins drive train for it

There's so much good Junk out there people just dont want cause it's not good enough or brand new

That was my thought, also. Up here it would probably have some rust showing, but if you're careful and don't run it when the roads are crappy it won't get any worse. I get the impression that Diggin just wanted something for when his station wagon didn't have enough room.

Here in Missouri we call rust "cancer". Once it starts you can park the vehicle and it'll still rust down.

Older work trucks hold their value here. A $2,500 truck will give you a 50/50 chance of major failure in the first six months. :)

Plenty of rust with the thousands of tons of salt they spread in PA in the Winter. It is common to see pickups with gaping rust holes over the wheel wells, or just chrome "foil" left where the rear bumper should be. Seems that Rams are the most common with those issues.

I don't own a ecoboost f150(I have all larger diesels) but 2 of my friends have the 3.5 ecoboost xlt's with cloth interior and 4x4 and they have been good to them. I believe one is a 2015 and the other is newer like 2017.

I have a 1999 f250 with the 7.3 diesel 4x4 with about 230k miles and its a great work truck still. I have another 2006 f250 with the 6.0 diesel 4x4 and its been good the previous owner had it bullet proofed and had all service records so its been good to for 205k miles

Probably there wrong forum but here goes. I'm starting to look for a pick up as the more chores/ projects, the more I get frustrated loading things in the SUV and or having to hook up my utility trailer to carry the needed stuff. Looking primarily at a FORD F 150 with the 5.0 engine etc. Only reason I'm not hot on a Chevy is that they took government money to produce products that were not competitive in the marketplace.

So the question to those more knowledgeable FORD F 150 or Chevy Silverado both 1/2 ton and I don't need a super cab. On the FORD side looking at the 5.0 engine vice the 3.5 Eco boost. Two wheel drive and some creature comforts like bucket seats, towing package etc. Interested in others comments on either good or bad .

I went back to Ford in 2014 after 5 GMC or Chevy trucks, for the same reason, and the local Chevy truck plant was built on some of the property I once owned....
I love my 5.0, I haul with it, tow with it, and drive it every day.
I have made cross country trips in it and so far the biggest thing that has gone wrong with it is chewed wires from some dammed rodent, and the AC died last week, I assume another rodent chew.
I also do not want a extended cab, had one in 2006, and hated the turning radius even with a short bed

I bought my Ranger 4 years ago, and after the first winter had to replace the muffler and rear shackles. So I started parking it after deer season and it didn't deteriorate any further. Last year snow came early and I ran it in the salt just once; I should have washed it afterwards but had the outside water shut off for the winter. This spring I replaced the muffler again, and the bed rails are rotted out; just from that one time in the salt. It's not a full sized truck but still looks and runs good, plus I've kept it maintained. Yet it's worth about or less than the above mentioned $2500. I haven't decided if I'm going to use it this winter and junk it in spring; or park it again and run it another year.

Any used vehicle is a crap shoot. I bought this with 62K on it when it was 11 years old. The first year that I had it I had front end and brake work done, plus shocks, the above mentioned shackles and springs. (Ranger springs were always weak.)
The second year front end, brake work, and tires, the third year frontend and brake work, then had the transmission serviced. 4 days later it lost power and I had to tow it to the garage, where they found one of the cat's had broken inside and clogged the exhaust... I suspect because of something they did when servicing the transmission. Last year I did nothing to it except front brakes and warranty work (on a 14 year old truck) but the first thing this year I did brakes, muffler, and had the thermostat neck replaced.

One thing that I learned is that even the local Ford dealer doesn't always fix it properly; I ran it for three years and never thought the brakes were right. I finally replaced the rotors myself. After three years/50K miles and replacing the rears multiple times it finally stops the way that it should; yet I still have to crawl underneath and tighten up the rear shoes occasionally because I can't get the adjusters to work properly.

We just had our first repair on our 13 year old 2006 Honda Ridgeline with 230k miles. It needed an A/C compressor/condenser and a starter motor. Besides that all it has needed is wear parts like tires/brakes, oil changes, timing belt.

I hate the new silverados. Trying to be too much like a f150. Just my two cents though.

I don't like the boxy sides of the new GMS at all. Would like to have a Dodge, but find that once, fantastic retro looking hood and fenders, has grown old. How are they ever going to move away from that which I guess is kind of a tradmark?
