Just like fly by wire

and that folks is how why you pucker when you fly, you are relying on a sensor and power to move something just like on the ground, no more cables and levers and been that way for a long time.........most new vehicles are that way with gear selection, throttle, 4x4, wipers, pick your poison - next it will be thought driven or spoken such as eye movement for the paralytics

"F150 D" means the diesel engined pickup. It MIGHT get 30 mpg if the conditions were right. Gas engine - you were right on the money for mileage. But it won't match a diesel!

It might get more in the right conditions. A friend's EcoDiesel will hit 32 mpg on long, flat highway runs. He gets mid 20's in his normal driving (mostly secondary highways). I would expect the Ford to do at least as well, if not better, being that it is lighter and has a couple of extra gears.

The next phase is to take the driver completely out of it. You'll just piddle on your phone while it takes you wherever you are going. There won't even be a steering wheel.

Agree. My 2.7EB will run at 28-30 on flat roads at 60-65mph. The PS should do a little better.

My friend is a die hard GM man, yet I happened to speak with him on the road yesterday driving his employers new 2019 GM half ton. Asked him how he liked it, and he said he HATES it! Says he can't see forward very well to know where the truck ends and the rear end jounces sideways on rough road. Just reporting what I heard. This is a guy that drives hundreds of new trucks a year up fitting them and includes ninty foot arials, so he knows how to drive a truck.

I read GM was going with a new 2.7 4 cylinder engine in their 1/2 ton, it has a turbo and also cuts back to 2 cylinders in the interest of mpg.

................and the rear end jounces sideways on rough road.............................

One morning years ago I had s 1/2 T Chevy 4x4 pickup truck that I was driving to work on the same road I'd been using for months. I was in a curve where the boacktop had a sort of washboard texture, and the rear of the truck promptly skittered and it felt like the truck was going to get sideways. I had the oil changed the evening before and they had pumped the tires up to 45 pounds. Bled them to 35 and all was well again.

The visibility out of of the new GMs is terrible. If I can help it I’ll never own one. I’ve never experienced the rear end bouncing sideways part.

Why is 5G extra scary? Because the extra speed/bandwidth will allow collection of more data with less restrictions? Or something more specific?
