Need / want a pickup truck

Around here, alloy OEM rims can be found almost daily on Craigs List, and pretty economical as well

That's what I would do if I wanted them for an older truck. However, it wouldn't seem right to put used rims on a brand new pickup.

In most cases these seem to be new take offs with very few miles on them, most times with the OEM tires still mounted with most of the life still on them

Take offs. I will never forget the time some tiny car dealership here opened in the morning to find their one showpiece car, parked on a raised ramp, sitting on blocks!

My truck came with wide low profile 20" wheels and tires, picked it up end of September by mid Nov I had pulled the worthless to me 20's off of it and gone with older OEM 17's and narrower tires.
Sold my 20's with less then 2000 miles on them.
But I knew that that's what I would be doing when I bought the truck.

Then I bought a second set of 17's one has mounted studded snows, the other my all terrain summer tires.

We buy all of our trucks with 10 ply tires. I suspect that would be a pretty rough ride if they are low profile.

Low profile tires have never made sense to me, particularly on a truck. One (only?) advantage of a larger wheel and low profile tire is that it gives the manufacturer more room for the brakes, but besides that the cost and ride really suffers.

That's the principal reason. I'll take the improvement in braking over ride.

Not on the roads that I travel. If they really wanted to enhance braking, they'd ditch that :censored: ABS.

If they did bump the brakes up it would be one thing, but usually they don't case in point my 15 ram 1500 came with 20" wheels but 17" wheels clear the brakes easily.
So they couldhave upgraded the brakes considerably but did not.
I believe that you will find that to be the case most times.
