We have been fortunate up till now ... excellent spring and put up a bunch of hay ... now the heat, grasshoppers and no rain are wearing on us. Every hay field will be cut and baled by Monday ... second cutting and then that will be it until moisture returns. Will start irrigating Friday ... thats hard to do in 100 degree waether.

We're dry and the grass is suffering but the farms are holding on, some with irrigation others doing ok on their own. One advantage I have is I'm sitting on top od the Paleo Channel and I have water 8'-10' below the surface and it will pump a 1.5" stream at wide open on the wash down pump forever.

Well TBN Team,
We got a lot of much-needed rain this weekend, but for some it was too much in certain areas. At our property, we got around 4 inches in a few hours! There were "creeks" running through our driveway and other areas of our property even 24 hours later. Fortunately, we experienced worse than this 2 years ago, so we knew what to expect and how to handle, and had even made some improvements (which worked!). Also, it has been so dry here that this rain is very welcomed. Our little frog pond on "the back 40" has finally got water in it again! (it's very seasonal).

For the folks around the High Park Fire area (the one that made the news in northern Colorado; burned 125 square miles), mixed blessing. It is good that it puts out all the little smolderings over the whole area, but it also causes flooding due to the vegetation being gone. Here is a link to a local news source with an interesting video... the water looks like black oil... and be sure to seem the camper/truck nea rthe end deciding to cross the flooding going across the road (that's in the Poudre Canyon, north central Colorado, Saturday).

Have had 5 "storms" since July 1. Plenty of clouds, wind, lightning and thunder. Got a total of one-third inch of rain combined. Storms come off Lake Erie, but are dry by the time they get here. Corn planted following hay last year is not looking too bad, but corn after wheat or beans are seriously curled and stunted. Beans are just sitting there. No rain in the forecast until maybe Sunday. Very few black raspberries and very few blackberries. Both are about 3 weeks ahead of normal. Plenty of poison ivy from the mild winter though. Just have to wait and see, I guess.

It has been over 100 degrees here for the last 20 days with no rain.
All our grass is dead and now our beautiful Oaks are turning brown. Pines also dropping their needles.
However, it has been raining for the last 2 hours with a temp of 73 degrees! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I've resorted to using the hydroseeder loaded with pond water and using the cannon on top to drive around to water everything, even at 500 gallons a load it still seems like not enough.

I noticed this morning we had 2-3 drops per square inch of rain on the deck. I think that is the first rain since the big storm 6/30.

I also noticed this morning my pasture now has NO GRASS. It is turning into a massive dust bowl... My poor horses...

Yesterday the forecast was 80% chance of Rain in Ladysmith. We did not get any.

I think even the dandylions are looking weak...

I also rode my Harley to work today (wife's Flex is in the shop, so she has my truck).

My wife said, "PLEASE ride the Harley, it might be the only way to get rain..." :D

We received a tad over 2 inches of rain yesterday evening and last night. We were very dry and the creek was completely dry also before this much needed rain. There was some flooding and trees down in some parts of the County. More rainfall is expected throughout this week. I heard on the evening news last night that over half of the Country is currently experiencing drought conditions. Best wishes to everyone.

With the dry weather this year I have finally, I believe, been able to kill off the mares tail weeds around here with 2,4-D. Their weakened state has made it a whole lot easier.
