Just cause you have guns doesn't mean you can shoot everything on your land, Most dogs are not vicious but if the dog was biting us or the horses that changes things...

That is an important clarification, one that many posters here have tried to convey, but few on 'the other side' seem to grasp the concept of... a friendly dog wandering thru, will meet no harm on my farm, be scolded and told loudly to go home, nothing more. Agression towards my family, pets, or livestock, will be dealt with in an equally aggressive fashion, which will vary depending on the circumstances. I believe this is likely true for many of us.

It is called common sense. The dog I described near the beginning of this thread was back this weekend going through garbage on the porch of our cabin. I gave him another warning shot. I would really like to take of the problem but don稚 have the heart. I have a BB gun at home that I plan to take to the cabin. Maybe that will work because shots in the ground from a pistol don稚 seem to be a permanent deterrent.

I just don稚 understand why people let these mutts run loose.

Ahhh Yorkies!! Great little dogs but they have no clue of their size, I had one and once I had several elk come in the back yard and she was out there running around barking and causing a scene.. I was just hoping he didn't get stomped!! Loved that little guy!

You might have a little Yorkie in you...????

Putting a smiley face at the end of that statement doesn't make it okay.

I'll just assume you tend to over state yourself.

If not then I'll go back to my earlier statement. Glad you aren't my neighbor.

That's fine I don't do good with neighbors anyway..

The owner of the garage I used to patronize was bragging one day of what he did to the neighbors dog: put out meat laced with ground up glass. He may or may not have been serious but it was the last time that I did business with them.

Yeah, cruel is completely unacceptable!!

We get dogs on are property from time to time ,When the next door dog comes over my wife sends a text to the owner and they come over with a dozen eggs for us and take the dog home no big deal , We just don't want the dog getting kicked or run down by the horses. If its not the neighbors well we try and catch it and see if it has tags if not we call the cops to pick it up .Just cause you have guns doesn't mean you can shoot everything on your land, Most dogs are not vicious but if the dog was biting us or the horses that changes things...

Yeah, wandering dogs are not a concern, they come and go here and there.. no big deal..

I bought one of those Red Rider lever BB guns just for that reason, I had a neighbor at my last place that let his dogs wander, they used to stand at my fence (both sides of that fence were my property)barking, so I'd shoot them with that. It stung but did no damage. Worked pretty well actually.

Very well stated.
