Neighbor lets dogs out to do their business in my yard?

When I lived in my old subdivisions we had the typical 4' high chain link fence between backyards
complete with the dog running up and down barking every time I was near the fence.

I finally got tired of it and punched the dog in the nose hard enough to make him yelp and take off
for the house. He never bothered me again.

This "Neighbor" is one of those "rescue" type odd ball individuals ............

Oh wow ... rescue type odd ball?

Do you mean one of those people who give of themselves to relieve the suffering, neglect and abuse of a few of God's precious creations? Do you mean one of those people who find it appalling to see dogs dumped in the country, starving near dumpsters, chained to a backyard stake or left out in the freezing rain? Do you mean one of those people who give so much of themselves in an unending effort to repair some of the damage caused by selfish, lazy, cruel and ignorant pet owners that see their animals as unworthy of care? Yes, by your brainless and heartless comment, I'm sure you see those people as ODD.

If I have a problem with dog mess in my yard I pour bacon grease right on the pile. It magically disappears within a few hours.

Here's a bump to this thread, first to ask the two folks with the problem if it was ever resolved, then to share one incident that I successfully dealt with, and finally to ask for ideas about an ongoing problem.

Many years ago a neighbor's dog had taken to using my backyard as its bathroom, accessing it through the broken fence. I asked the neighbor very politely on two occasions to fix the fence and keep his dog out of the yard, and nothing was done. One afternoon, after cleaning up an almost full grocery bag of doggie do, I took it next door, placed it on the welcome mat, and knocked. The "lady" of the house answered. I explained that I was returning something that belonged to her, and asked her to fix the fence. The stream of expletives that came out of the woman's mouth would have shamed a sailor, and was punctuated with a cigarette thrown at my face. I explained to her that if I have to clean up after her dog again, I'd file a complaint with the police. Then I left.

An hour later a thunderous set of impacts landed on my front door, and it was the neighbor's husband. After he'd run his foul mouth a few minutes (he had nothing on his wife), I interrupted him long enough to remind him I'd asked him several times to keep his dog out of the back yard, and told him if it happens again he'd be contacted by the police. I ended the conversation by telling him how sorry I felt that he was married to someone like that, and shut the door in his face.

Five minutes later I heard sawing and hammering in the back yard and witnessed the world's shoddiest fence repair job in progress. It was, however, good enough until I moved out of the place a year later.

Now, fast forward almost 35 years. I own 13 acres on a flag lot, and every time I use the easement, the neighbor's border collie chases my side-by-side Kubota or truck, and follows me up the drive, growling, hackles raised, lunging and barking at me all the way. If I'm on a motorcycle, he'll bite at the wheels and my feet. I've contacted animal control on several occasions. They've left phone messages and notes on the neighbor's gate, all to no avail. I have videos of the dog barking and lunging, and of it at my house. The fence idea is out: I've already been threatened with legal action if I put one up to protect my ingress/egress rights in the easement. Yesterday was another round of barking and lunging as I walked up to get the mail. My New Year's resolution is to resolve the issue. Today, lifting an idea from this thread, I'm going to write a letter to animal control, and another to the sheriff's office. I'm not optimistic it'll make any difference. Any other ideas?

Just mix a little Dawn in a trigger spray bottle that you can adjust the tip to stream. Aim for the eyes. Cheap fix.

In the past I have used a 12 gauge shot shell loaded with rock salt. Stings like ****, but wont kill the dog.

One of my neighbours had a big old hound that used my yard as its' personal toilet. I tolerated it for about a year, then I took action. One load of rock salt from about 75' away.

The same neighbour asked my young lad one day in the following summer if I had poisoned his dog and asked where I was, in the same breath. At the time I was 1000 miles away at work and junior informed him of this. Who poisoned his dog? I think I know who, but it was NOT anyone that lives on this property. And the fellow that I think done it died 10 years ago.

The type that takes in dozens of animals then lets them roam all over, one of those odd balls that lets their dogs lick their tong and open mouth kisses them. Usually right after the dog licks it's own @$$, maybe you like that too... So YES rescue type odd ball!
:D

"Roam all over" is not the definition of "rescue."

"Lick their tong?" What's a tong? Do you mean the dog licks its tong, or licks the odd balls tong? I'm beginning to question your decision to live in that neighborhood. You should move while you still have a good grip on your tong!

We shouldn't go around shooting dogs--salt or otherwise-- unless an imminent danger to life exists. Try talking with the owner to explain the situation and how you would hate to contact animal control because they will impound the dog or fine the owner. Most people respond to that.
You can ratchet it up from there but the dog is just a pawn in this and is doing the best he can with what he has. Try to work with him the same as you would want to have someone work with you. Just my two cents here.
