Neighbor's dobermans on my land, protecting "their" property ...??

I seem to live at the apex of people bringing their dogs "to the farm" ... people drop them off here often. I don't know if they are aggressive, I don't know if they are diseased.

Shoot, Shovel, Shut up.

Within reason of course ... a neighbours deserves a warning first before his dogs don't come home again.

Why a man would want to shoot a dog, or WORSE..........

Great story - thanks. You are a patient man - there are many way to kill a dog, and from your story I'm surprised that you didn't try 'em all..

I have two dogs living in the house, they are family. My neighbor has two
dogs that stay in their backyard, I have made friends with both and scratch their ears when I see them.

Once when I was scratching the females ears the male nipped at my elbow. It didn't hurt a lot but it was as if was building up to biting me. The next time he did it I punched him in the nose hard enough to make him yelp...he's been really good ever since.

The funny part was the expression on the dogs face when I punched him. He was totally shocked.

I wasn't serious, just an attempt at sick humor.

That is OK I have heard of that being done, due to recurring dog damage issue. I would worry about someone having an injury accident avoiding the dog or a responsible neighbors dog would be the one that did get hit.

I have to laugh. 72 hours since the thread was started, and well over 100 posts on what to do with the dogs.

Chances are the guy was out walking the dogs, the dogs saw the tractor and were curious. By all accounts, the property the tractor was on isn't used that much (I'm assuming no one lives there), so chances are the dogs do go onto the property when their owner takes them out for a walk from time to time. The owner of the dogs in question apparently got the dogs back, end of story for now (sorry, didn't read through all the posts, figure it was just on what to do with the dogs, but has the OP actually talked with the neighbor yet?)

Like someone else had mentioned, with all these horror stories of dogs, I consider myself lucky.

Long story short, dogs are just like children. Some people have no right having any.

When I was an early teenager, my family adopted a really nice, well trained big red Doberman "Pinscher". Zack was a great dog!

Surprised the heck out of us though, the first time he got real excited and pinched. We thought it was a bite at first and were shocked. Turned out, he pinched, as per the name of the breed. He only did it when real excited.

He looked funny at the time; the original owner did not trim his ears in time. That dog had big red Dumbo ears!

A neighbour of mine found a dog killing one of his chickens. He caught the dog, and attached a note on his collar saying its $25.00 for a chicken normally but since the owner let the dog loose and did not know that, the first ones free. He then attached the dead chicken to the dogs collar and shooed the dog home.

He never saw that dog again.

I am not sure the OP has even talked to his neighbor yet?

I seem to remember reading he had his earphones on or something so didn't realize the guy was even out in his yard when the dogs took off?

Lots of speculation over what to do and what not and the guy could easily be a real good guy just because the OP is scared of dogs etc isn't a reason to jump off the deep end and start wagging an arsenal around and planning secret doggy funerals.

(these neighbor threads crack me up I have had bad neighbors this is kids stuff jmho)

I would give it a chance its just a beer or two so what if the dogs come over once you get to know them send them home he wont care he may not want them wandering either?

wagging an arsenal around.

Hey man. We were just sitting here cleaning our guns and talking about dogs when you walked up. I don't know what you think you heard. :D
