This is always a tough call. Most people would rather not shoot, but sometimes that's all you can do. On our rural property, the very nice neighbors have 4 huge pit bulls. They are *****-cats when we go over to visit, but for some reason, they are somewhat aggressive when they are on OUR property. So far, I've been able to shoo them off, but pit bulls, especially in groups, are known for going into a rage. How would you suggest one person handle 400 lbs of enraged pit bulls if they ever snap? Quite frankly, I doubt I would survive to kill all 4 of them. We don't live there yet, but one of the first chores will be to put up a sturdy fence to 'keep my dog in'.

I was with a guy when his dog came home shot. Let me tell you he was just about insane with anger. I'm pretty sure if he had known who did it he would have killed them. Not the most stable guy. It wouldn't be the best way to meet the neighbors.

My brother in law hates dogs pooping in his yard he thought of all different crazy schemes to chase them out of his yard. He swears by pepper. He buys big cans of it and sprinkles it along the front of his yard. He says the dogs don't come in his yard anymore. You have to renew it regularly. Hey it's organic.

I only read the first two pages of this post.
-I like the idea of treats, but only you know if the dogs are viscious.
-Pepper spray. When the neighbor pets his dog he will wind up with the spray in his eyes or nose too.
-If your visit with the neighbor does not work I suggest a cheap slow speed daisy BB gun. When the dog associates the pain with your face it will not return. Just pop him on the hip, not in the face. Do not use a high powered BB gun.
Good luck and I hope this does not wind up in court or worse yet the ER.

Friend of mine was heartbroken when his lab died of a bb shot to the chest. He never figured out which kid in the neighborhood was responsible. Nice dog. The dog laid around his office at work and never bothered anybody.
