I wished we had our animal control back. The county did at one time, but they did a big purge of employees because of budget cuts and animal control was one of them.
When it was still here, though, they were very effective at explaining the laws to people, the ramifications of having a claim persecuted, and giving them a chance, but would fine and pick up animals, and or assist if needed.
Had a neighbor that thought that living in the country meant not having to control his two dogs, one of which got into our pasture and killed one of our animals. In the middle of the night, in a big rain storm, loaded both of his dogs up, into my pickup and took them to his home. Rang his door bell numerous times, then started pounding on the door. He eventually came to the door, i told him what had happened and left the dogs. A few weeks later he drove over to my place and wanted to know if i had called animal control on him, I said i had, because after the night i took his dogs back, they continued to show up, so obviously not controlled. He was upset as he jumped back into his pickup, that wouldn't start now, in the middle of my driveway, with no way around it......Sigh, i walk over to him and his pickup, ask if he needs assistance, he's baffled why it won't start, i pop the hood have him try, no click nothing. Then i tell him i'll tow him back to his house. Sorry, end of my rant, but that animal control person put the fear of G*d into him.
