Neighbors Dogs Running Loose

Why not inform the neighbors that the dogs barking is annoying ?

People that allow their dog to continually bark need some help understanding that some do not approve of such bad manners.

Thankfully none of my neighbors do that. But I’m guessing by the dog being tied in the yard the cares are pretty low and then if something drastic happens even if you didn’t do it you’re setting yourself up for more problems.

Years ago people use to shoot dogs and cats all the time without blinking an eye. I think people get frustrated with owners and the local animal control not doing anything about domestic animals out of control.

When I was growing up in rural Oklahoma, cats were fair game. If a feral cat was spotted, and you had a gun, it was expected that it would be shot. Most of us were quail hunters, and they were reputed to catch the baby quail. All the cats I knew of were barn cats; half wild and a lot of them. In fact, farmers I knew had cat killin's every so often because they multiplied like crazy. Dogs were a different commodity; they were usually left alone unless they were killing chickens, sucking eggs or running the livestock. I saw my Dad kill a couple dogs who had killed some sheep.

My opinion ... Admin should forward the posts with comments about ADW or FA to authorities local to the posters with copies of the posts and the IP addresses they were made from.

Good luck with that! Big George has passed and at the time it was a well known fact with the police what happened but the dog abuser would not identify or testify against him. He was a real tuff guy up till that point, intimidated a lot of folks around here but when he crossed paths with George he found himself quickly on the loosing end of the battle he started and got his just due.

I appreciate my neighbor’s dogs barking when they hear something abnormal. I also appreciate hearing my neighbors roosters crowing in the morning. I am not an impatient person. Living rural has benefits :thumbsup:

When I defend myself against somebody is intentionally shooting at an animal next to my house, which party is using a deadly weapon?

That's why we have courts/juries.

You best not use the mixed metaphors; if you shoot somebody who is shooting at your dog, you best be prepared to go to jail...and probably for a long time if you kill him. Ask your lawyer. No dog is worth the life of another human being. In order to justify shooting another person, you must convince a jury that you or one of your family was in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm...at a minimum...some jurisdiction you may have to prove more. All jurisdictions are a bit different; under common law you had to prove self defense or that they had broken into your home, at night, while you were there. There are some variations under the "Make my day" laws, but rest assured you cannot kill a man over a dog and go scott free. Check with your lawyer; this should not be construed as legal advice.

I have a German Shepherd, when someone or something is around he will bark until I investigate, if he continues I will bring him in. My closest neighbor is a ways up the road, he also has a GSD that I hear barking in the early evening, doesn't bother me at all. I don't like to hear dogs barking all night though, no need for that.

If I lived in a area where the houses were close like some people do I probably wouldn't own a dog, it's a pain dealing with people that are bothered by every little thing.

Two dogs I have never seen before running loose on my property. 5:00 am they set off the driveway alarm. Cause my dog to go nuts waking my SWMBO. One is a big Rottie. Not sure about the other. They both clearly have collars. When it gets light out I will go out and see if I can get close enough to determine who the owner is.

Could just be someone's dogs got loose by accident.

Here's the local facebook group about lost pets. 2hrs ago there's a rottweiler sitting by the road at Bremen Hwy and Dragoon. It happens.

My mom had a big white dog that managed to open the gate in the back yard at night and left. 8 days later we found it sitting at the back door of a church that my dad and my Boy Scout troop met at once a week.

How this thread turns from a dog waking you up in the early morning hours to people threatening each other's lives with bodily harm just baffles me.
