It is in the 195/240 operation manual that pto speed is at 2200 rpm.

Yes I bought a vn tractor from the dealer in mesquite. I just wished I would have known about this website before I bought mine in 2006. It's not too bad of a tractor for the price I paid at the time but their workmanship is horrible

As I look on CL and other sites that have Yanmar YM or FX machines, I tend to pay close attention to the way Fredricks details their machines. This way, anything used that turns up, I can consider. :)

I put about 3 hours on it today. Observations are as follows:
I drove 40 minutes on tractor to get to ranch from home. I went 4-6 mph varying engine speeds as I went. I mowed for 4+ hours this weekend. I am stunned by how little fuel it used.[maybe 1.5-2 gallons ] My pto guard came off and spun with pto, but fixing it was easy. My left foot kicked the tractor out of 4wd a time or two. I generally ran about 1800rpm with the mower. The grass is tall but sparse and dry. The lightweight 5' LMC 500 Clipper has a big sticker that says "Important Pasture Mowing Only", well all my pastures are important. The rotary cutter worked extremely well and my "pastures" are full of wild hog holes, old[140 y.o.!] terracing for cotton and light brush. It handled it all with ease. I noticed that right after I shut the tractor down, the engine was only warm to the touch. Very cool running motor. No surprises, just hard work taken in stride.
Interesting about the 2nd pto gear rpms. I can see where that might be useful if used with care. Thanks for sharing that data. This old 2210d is impressive! Pics soon.

Be sure to clean out the radiator screen so ,that, she stays running cool. I have the LMC medium duty cutter. LMC manufacturing isn't all that far from Fredricks

"My pto guard came off and spun with pto"

I don't know exactly what that means, but would not concern about guard spinning with pto, as long as it will spin independently and stop by hand. Saves wear and tear on plastic bearing surfaces.

Hope that the bolts didn't shake loose or something. You will need to report that to Fredricks. It's a safety item that they take very seriously. It keeps the UTDA certification in check.

Oh wow, we both were mowing pasture lands recently. My mower is the John Deere 261 60-inch finish mover. I got to get the blades sharpened. On the PowerShift, I have the gear on 3rd and the PS in 3rd. When the pasture grass is above the weight bar up front, the PTO runs at selection-1 540 and 2000rpm. IF it's less height under the front axel, then PTO selection-2 and gear on 4 and PS on 1 or 2.

On my pto, there is a chain that keeps the plastic tube pto guard from spinning. The chain broke when a branch fell on it and broke the chain. I rigged up the chain again and all back to normal now. I did notice weed pieces on the radiator and cleaned them off. Another great tip I learned here before purchase. I mow a lot under trees and I had to watch the exhaust pipe at times.
Understand that I used to use a 5ft. 14.5hp Swisher trail mower/4 wheeler. I overheated the 4 wheeler many times and had to replace stator coil, etc. I could only maintain 5 acres of 75 that I have in semi native pasture. I will say that the relatively thin blades on the Swisher were very good at going through thick grass.
This tractor allows me to tackle the place for real now.
The ranch was an old neglected family property that we almost sold till I moved to it 5 years ago. The first 3 years were spent establishing security[anti trespassing, theft, poaching operations], fencing and then cattle/wildlife. Now this tractor really sets me on course to turn it into a showplace. That's the goal anyway.
