I need to buy a new 3 bottom plow (3x14) for an insurance claim. Does anyone make a good 3 bottom plow like my Oliver that went up in smoke two weeks ago??

Doubt there is much call for 3 bottom plows on the new market. Used would be best bet.
Getting a check and not the plow would be a better option. :)

Not much plowing done these days, as no-till seems to be the way to go.

Kneverland and Overum do. Big dollars though. How did a plow burn? All the wear steel and hydraulic hose would be garbage but the rest should be ok?

In answer to your question, yes there a several manufacturers that make new three bottom plows and I can tell you who they are.

My question is this...
How much do you want to spend. They ain't cheap if you are going to buy new.

Still wanna know who makes "new" plows?

edit
Add Kuhn to what slozuki named.
Also, you can get a three bottom switch plow from John Deere.

The insurance company demands new. I agree with you.
Any links to new would be great!

How did a plow burn?

Hot fire that melted the steel pipe that brings water to the barn and melted the snow-blower frame. I do not want to trust a plow that has gone through that much heat.

How old was your plow and does the insurance company know how much they cost?

I bought it used. And the insurance does not know and appears to not care. The policy is replacement cost for like and that means new, not used.

WOW!

I need to insure my plow.
I gave $800 for it, $300 shipping and I have spent about $300 fixing it up.
so around $1400.
AND...
parts are next to impossible to find for a plow this old and it's a two way so that makes it harder.

A plow similar to mine from any of the manufacturers listed will be from about $7500 for the deere to over 10 grand for the Kverneland. I want (and nearly bought) the Kuhn. $9500 delivered to my door.

Very unlikely it melted a steel pipe. You must mean it heated it enough it bent. The plow frame is likely fine unless it warped but all the wearing parts are garbage after a fire like that.

Yes, bent and bent a lot! How can I fix the wearing parts on this older plow???

Those kverneland plows are downright awesome. If money were no object, they're a great way to go.

What is a Reversible Plow? Why would I want or not want one?
Doc

(Except for the John Deere switch plow)***
You would not want a reversible plow because they are heavier than a one way, you have double the wear parts, you have mechanical parts to maintain, more expensive.

You would want one because they are cool (my opinion) you plow one way, reverse the plow and come right back down the same row. only one dead furrow to deal with, and less wasted motion while plowing.

Less complicated to lay how you are going to plow your field. This is all moot if you are plowing a small area but is important (again my opinion) when you are plowing large areas.

*** The John Deere switch plow and several other similar brands of switch use the same bottoms.
There are lots of videos of reversible plows on you tube. I waste a lot of time watching them. Most of them are of large plows but the manufacturers make smaller plows, all the way from 2 bottoms up.

I took a look at the prices and you are correct! Amazing cost for a new plow. They must be great plows for that kind of money:D

Doc,
this style of plow is or was used for areas that had flood irrigation systems. With this style of plow there are no dead furrows and each year you alternate which way you roll the soil to prevent the field from sloping.

My defination of flood irrigation:

Water way or irrigation ditch at the head of the field and siphon tubes to pull the water out of the ditch. Almost all fields also had corrugations in them to aide in keeping the water flowing the full length of the field.

My late Father's JD 318 caught fire while using it and the insurance was the same way, he got a brand JD X540 out of the deal, I think that was the only claim he had had with Farm Bureau in over 30 years with them.

Roy, what is a "dead" furrow?

Did he miss his JD 318? I am missing my TN70A. Had less than 600 hours on it, stored in a barn, out of the weather. It was perfect and tough.
