I took my new 4310 out for a spin and discovered my first problem.

Within 10 to 15 seconds after applying full forward pedal, the machine comes to an abrupt halt as if I had quickly taken my foot off the pedal. Releasing the pedal and then pressing it again results in no forward motion. If I let the tractor sit for 10 to 15 seconds or if I hit the reverse pedal first (it will move in reverse), I regain forward function.

This does not seem to happen at any other pedal position but I can consistently make it happen by pushing the pedal all the way to the end of travel.

There are no blinking code lights.

I'll be calling the dealer on Monday, but do any of you have any ideas? Maybe just a bad potentiometer on the forward pedal?

It sounds like the forward potentiometer is out of calibration. When you push it all the way down, it gets past the acceptable range and the computer defaults to neutral. HAve your dealer readjust the potentiometer and recalibrate the transmission.

Are you sitting flat on the tractor seat at all times? When I drive the e hydros at work on the 4320 and 4310 we have, I have a hard time sitting flat on the seat and pushing the pedals down far enough without leaning forward causing the tractor safety system to stop tractor movement altogether. I thought they had probelms but then realized it was because I go off the seat a little bit.

"After applying full forward pedal"... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

After putting 155 hours on my JD during the past year and a half, I can count the number of times I have used full forward pedal on one finger, never needed to except once.

Question, does your cruise control work properly when you are using less than full forward? I'm still getting used to my tractor stopping immediately when I shut off the cruise mode, it's hard for me to judge how much pedal to apply prior to switching it off. Your problem may not have anything to do with the cruise control, but that's what it made me think of.

Nick,

I'm pretty certain that I am as I don't feel that I am stretching to reach the pedals but I will try it again to make sure.

JDgreen227,
I have not tried the cruise control yet. I've had limited use of the 4310 as it has been raining since delivery (I understand from this forum that is a common occurence). I took the loader off and went out to drive around a little. The grass was still too wet to mow but the sun was starting to shine. While at my neighbor's, the sky darkened and the drops were beginning to fall. I was heading home in a hurry.
