Hi John....

That field you see in the background I keep cut with my JD425 garden tractor....it's very therapeutic driving around in big circles while it gives me downtime to sort through a lot of thoughts in my head about life in general. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif It takes about an hour or so to cut. What you don't see is a field behind where I was when I took the picture that takes another hour to cut./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif All told, I spend about 9-10 hours on the 425 with each lawn cutting every 2 weeks or so during cutting season.

I got the 4710 and all these attachments for the real mean stuff that's in the back fields that you can't see and which my tenant farmer doesn't till. Also, plenty of hedgerows that will be removed are on the 'Things to do List' over the next couple of years as I want to try to open all the fields up to agricultural production.

Thanks for the tips about raising the implements off the ground. I plan on storing them in five sheltered bays I have on the rear side of the barn. The smaller attachments I'll rest on pallets...the MX6 I'll try what you suggest.

Thanks again for all your counsel.

Bob

Hi Chris...

<font color=blue>"...I really like the HD toothbar and want to get one for my machine when I get it..."</font color=blue>

That toothbar comes from FFC (Farmer's Factory Company) out of Lee, Illinois. Check out their website below...including their construction, industrial, and landscaping attachments.

Hi Rob,

Yes, the dealer did do the Top n'Tilt...and I feel he did a real nifty job the way he plumbed in all the lines and hoses...especially for the minimal hours of labor that I paid to have these dealer installs done. Sorry, I don't have a picture of the control valving....I'll try to take this in the next batch of pictures I take of the 4710 in action. I thought too that rake/blade combo was interesting....sort of like two or three implements built into one....has rake, back blade, and if one pushes the imagination box blade functions. I will test it out under the three work scenarios and will post pics in the future.

Bob,

Nice looking equipment! I'm not jealous at all, just happy for you; I know how thorough you are and how much research went into this purchase. Enjoy.

John MillerIII: I also appreciate the storage tip. When my equipment comes, the tractor will be stored in a tent-like 10 X 20 Structure temporarily. It has a grass floor. Would pallets be the best to use to store the outside (and inside) implements? Any ideas appreciated. My profile now lists the implements that will be coming with my tractor when I finally get it. I think I'll be able to store the tiller out of the direct weather and will have to decide on the others. Perhaps the 4in1 bucket, too will fit inside. Thanks.

Bill,

JD equipment is real nice....you'll enjoy yours as well and the wait you're going through now will be worth it and the frustrations regarding delivery will be forgotten quickly enough after the 4310 arrives.

Your 10'x20' tent may accommodate everything you're getting. My 4710 and the attachments arrived on a trailer bed that was comparable in size to your tent. They couldn't quite fit everything on the trailer and I had to bring the landscape rake and ballast box home in my pick-up. This was no problem as I was out at the dealer to sign final paperwork anyway.

I would suggest you procure wooden pallets from some retailer who is discarding them. They usually give them away for free to whoever wants them. This was one reason I got the pallet forks. Put an implement on one of the pallets and I could easily transport them without always having to hitch them up to the tractor. If you have to store some of your implements outside, place them on the pallets and you may want to cover them with tarps....be careful though with those blue plastic tarps. They may cause discoloration on the paint finish when exposed to direct sunlight. Contact between painted finishes and this type of tarp causes some kind of chemical reaction with sunlight that causes the discoloration. You might want to use a canvas tarp instead.

Let us know when your 4310 comes in.

Guys -

Check out the Cover-It systems. They make a few different models for a decent price. Especially if you buy direct from them.

Congratulations on the new equipment. If you can post a picture of the hydraulic controls. I'd like to see how they put all the levers in. I take it from you post this is your first tractor. You must feel like you died and went to heaven. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Hi Morris,

<font color=green>If you can post a picture of the hydraulic controls. I'd like to see how they put all the levers in.</font color=green>

I'll take a picture of the controls and try to post in the future. I've had a previous request on this so I'll make a point of getting a few good close up shots. In simple terms the third function SCV control is a lever directly in front of the FEL's joystick. Lever controls the third function operations such as the 4in1.....pull it toward you and the clamshell opens....push it back and the bucket snaps shut. I would have preferred a Fasse valve button on top of the joy stick but this was a more expensive dealer install option. There is another small switch, similar to the 4WD switch and other electro switches on the right fender that's directly to the right of the 3rd SCV lever previously mentioned. Push this on and hydraulic controls get diverted from the FEL's curling function to the rear 4th and 5th SCV to operate the top and tilt.

Yes, this is my first 'real' tractor. Had a couple very old Cases and old JD 2010 about 20 years ago but I spent more time fixing them than getting productive use out of them. This 4710 is a real nice machine....with eHydro it takes tractors light years into the future compared to the old Cases I was familiar with.
