I'm in the same boat. I have Kubota now, and was headed toward NH, but I had the same problem with the no HST at higher HP
Once you go HST you never go back!!!

Yep, HST sure fits the bill for what we use a compact for. However, if the wife could drive/wanted to learn to drive a power-reverser tractor. I'd be shoping for a 5625 JD right now.

Congrats on your new JD. I was looking at the Kubota M5040 w/ hydro shuttle, NH TC55DA, and the JD 4720. At first JD was about $4000 higher than either, but today I got a quote from a JD dealer that beat all of them. I always liked the JD better than either of the others, I just didn't want to pay that much more. I'll find out more tomorrow, and I'll possibly be a new JD 4720 owner myself. I wish I could justify a cab as well. I'll be jealous.

I thought I'd give an update. Due to unforseen circumstances, mainly the wife, we are going to hold on the 4-n-1 bucket at present. The wife does not want any payments and the 4-n-1 puts us about $2,000 over this. I don't blame her. I don't want any payments either. :(

The tractor will come with the joystick controls so that a 4-n-1 or grapple can be added at a later time.

The dealer recommended that we not go with the exterior mirrors. Said we had to many trees around our place and that we'd just tear them off.

So, I have a new quote coming today via email.

However, I had a guy to call today that wants to come and look at the TC45DA. If I can get at least $19,500, the CEO will let me keep the 4-n-1 bucket.:D

Congratulations on your new 4720! I hope you like it as well as I like mine. I can't imagine it not being able to do anything you want. I work mine professionally landscaping and athletic field work. I put on 600-700 hrs. per year here in VT & NH. I have great support from my dealer with what few little problems I've had. I do wish I had the cab though moving snow but with the backhoe on 80% of the time I'd probably beat my head silly climbing around.:D

Thanks we are just about ready to pull the trigger. I just need to see if this guy is going to buy my tractor or not. If not, we'll just take a beating and trade it in. Anyway, I'm excited about that cab too. :)

James and all 4720 owners.
Does this tractor have enough power to make use of the dozer feature on the 4-in-1. I need it for road work and moving some clay around to line some small water holes. (Been real dry!) Looks as if I could get more done pushing instead of pulling (box blade).
thanks

PS anyone who searches my posts and sees my slam of JD...well, have had to RE-THINK this whole 50hp thing! After driving and comparing several others...crow ain't so bad if you're real hungry!
also looking at MX7 and bb2272 or bb3272.
I welcome any comments or opinions.

I think a 4720 will have enough power for dozing, but traction will probably be an issue. You would probably need ballast and would likely be much better off with R1 tires than with the common R4 industrial tread.

MX7 is probably the biggest cutter you would want on a 4x20, mostly due to weight. I think a 4720 will have enough power for it, though there won't be a lot of margin. For comparison I have an LX6 with my 5105 and it runs it like a toy.

BB2272 should be fine; you may want to go to an 84" width. BB3272 if I remember correctly is in the industrial range and would be fairly heavy for a 4720. Some of the Frontier box blades were made by Woods, but right now I think they are made by worksaver. I recently inspected a BB2284 made by Worksaver and for the same price I expect to be buying a Woods GB84 (whichever model is the Woods' medium duty box).

James,

I have a 4720 (if you search my other 2 posts, you will see that my baby is having a new motor installed), and I got the 400cx loader with the 4 in 1. It was the first one of these buckets that my dealer had sold. After I got the tractor, the first job that I did was pick up some debris after having some stumps ground out. After that first use, I told myself that it was worth every penny and that I wouldn't want another tractor without one! Then I went and picked up some logs for the neighbor and moved them....didn't have to get off the tractor!

Ahvatsa,

I agree with what Z-Michigan has stated. I have R4's on the TC45DA, and will order the 4720 with them as well. For my uses, they are perfect. I mow when its dry, and for stobs and thorns they can not be beat. However, if traction and working in mud was a concern for me, I'd get the R1's.

Cant give you any info on the 4-n-1. My tractor has not been ordered yet. I keep adding things.;) Actually, I have another Deere dealer coming today to look at the TC45DA. I just didn't want to take what the other dealer was offering me for it unless I had too. We'll know tommorrow or the next which dealer gets our business.

Proglassco,

I read that here on TBN about your tractor having a new engine installed. I hope that they get it in and fixed quickly for you. I hope that this is an isolated failure, and not something that we'll be reading about often here.

....and I hope it is an isolated problem....just wish it wasn't happening to me. I really love the tractor, and it has done everything I have asked it to with ease. I, as well as several others, was very suprised that Deere had factory shipped a new motor in that short amount of time. As a friend of mine was telling me about his father's Deere having a problem a few years ago...they ended up having to put a new motor in it as well......and they had it back to him in no time....he was really impressed in the quick response and they way that he was treated. The dealer told him, "That's why you buy a Deere." It actually makes it feel like someone cares!
