This must be the season for new BX tractors. I also took delivery of mine today/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. After gettinq accustomed to the tractor, and knocking off some tree limbs with the ROPS....oops, I have a quick question. Being over 6 feet tall, I was wondering if there was any way to stretch a few more inches of leg room by modifying the seat mount? Has anyone tried this? I just wanted to inquire before doing some exploratory surgery on the seat. Maybe I am not used to using my heel for reverse (seems kinda awkward). Any thoughts would help. TIA

congrats on the new tractor/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
While I've not had the chance to set on the BX yet, I have the same height problem on the B7100. When piloting that one I just spread my knees wider and got used to it. You will get used to the heel reverse issue, not sure after all these years of doing it if I could back up any other way/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif.
My ROPS is also a tree magnet(errr...was) I now have the only apple trees in the neighborhood that the deer have to stand on their hind legs to swipe apples outta the tree before they drop!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Nazud; Interesting proposition. Being 6'-0" myself, I typically place the seat all the way back and would appreciate a little more, so I understand why you would desire a little more legroom. Looking at the seat, without taking it apart, doesn't show any obvious solution. At first, I thought the maybe drilling holes to move the mounting (lower portion of slide) back a few inches may do it (it seems that there is adequate space behind the seat to extend the transport). Anyway, I then realized that if the lower glide were moved, the springs would be resting on thin air. So, it may be possible, but a simplistic solution escapes me.

My apologies… Just looked at it again. The glide would not move the spring… but it looks like you would have a problem with the physical stops, right before the spring, which would still limit the movement.

Like HR mentioned, one does learn to accommodate. If tractors had the length of cars, enabling us to really move the seat back, then the turning radius would suffer. (Unless, of course, it's painted blue with SuperSteer) /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I had the same problem on my B2400.

My dealer (Chappell Tractor, Milford NH) raised my seat 2" up and moved it 2" back by removing the seat mount and putting a 2" square tube between the frame and seat bracket.

The piece of sheet metal behind the seat was removed to make room for the new seat position.

Attached are front and rear view photos of the seat modification. (Yes, the strip which holds the cover to the seat is falling off. )

After looking at mine,
the seat could be moved back if you offset the seat mounting holes with a flat bracket. I drew up a rough sketch and attached it. I would think that 1/8 stock would be fine. You'd need to make 4 of these. Comments please!
The seat would then ride on the 4 new round head bolts.

I didn't have much time on Easter to play with the tractor. It looks like the tang that acts as a seat slide stop could be bent out allowing the seat to travel farther rearward in the track. The only problem is the seat catch lever has nothing to engage in/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. The solution may be to drill a hole in the seat track to accomodate either a pin or bolt to keep the seat from sliding forward. Or possibly a combination of the revised brackets you suggested and this trick may work. I was also considering the 2" tube stock mentioned by dekker. I need to take some more time and study the situation a little better. Im back to longer shifts this week/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif,but may have time to address later in the week.

I am yet another 6'+ BX owner and it wasen't long before I too was looking at the prospect of a little more room for the lower extremities. I did find the little metal stop on the right seat rail and noticed that there were a couple more notches in the track that the seat adjuster could lock into if it could slide a little further. So I bent the tab aside a little and now with the seat in the last notch I think I gained about another inch. Now I don't know about you really tall guys but I found this was enough for me to feel much better positioned for comfort.

Fortunately I am only 5'10 and 190 lbs (muscle--not fat--yeah--sure) anyway I do not put the seat all the way back. I did not much like the boomerang pedal at first--I hated it in fact but now I like it and would have it no other way, I have gotten accustomed to rocking my foot on it when doing loader/boxscraper work and in time you will find it second nature. I also knocked down limbs with my ROPs so I went and got my faithful little Sthil saw and got rid of them and then after our big storm here I went and got me another Sthil, this one the 025. That sap sucker will get down on a felled tree. Yep, and I just got suckered into overtime (which I do not want and do not need) so I know the feeling. J

Jeeeze, another topic of interest! Congratulations Nazud! I want my seat raised also. I'll take Dekkers pix to my dealer when it goes in this fall.

Re: BX Seat

Attached is a photogragh of the modifed seat brackets I mentioned in a previous post. The seat is displaced backwards approximately 3 inches. The new posistion is much more comfortable for me.
