Curtis, the tractor cab and snowplow people make rubber snowplow edge and sell through their dealers by the foot......I bought one and like it.....my blacktop is about a year old and the wife hates to see those scratches so I keep a thinned out bucket of blacktop sealer around and touch up with a broom in the spring or any "warmer" sunny day.

Also there are no skid shoes for the blade and I am really worried of tearing up the driveway with it.
I'd really appreciate comments and advice here.

Rick,

You can drill a couple holes higher in the bottom forks of the BX lift rods and get more lift from the 3PH, so you can swing around a standard 6' rake or back blade without the tips hitting the ground.

While they are not cheap, the KK gage wheels are pretty good and would be recommended to keep the blade off the pavement, at least in my experience. Take this with a grain of salt, as I use my blade with gage wheels attached on my larger B2910, but I think it would work equally well on my BX2200. Gage wheels rule as far as I am concerned.

I don't get to TBN as much as I used to, and after typing the above, I just remembered that my gage wheels are KK, but I adapted them myself to the KK back blade, and gage wheels may not be an option for the KK back blade unless you do it yourself! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Guess it is time to put my tail between my legs and go back where I came from... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I do think gage wheels are one solution if you want to use a back blade on a new driveway surface without damaging it though...add a soft edge to the blade and that would be even better...but gage wheels rule, at least in my neck of the woods... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great way to start the day seeing you and you're beer smileys Bill! I wish that I'd taken your advice about building gauge wheels long ago. They definately do rule!!! ... especially on a box blade.
Cheers!

Here a pic of my rear blade with no skid shoes.

It works great up to 3". More than that, I recommend Front Snow blower. Long driway 900', you do not want it mounted on the rear.

The blade should float it's way around the driway & should not harm anything.

Henro, good to see you stop in /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, I was a bit worried. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

All,
Thanks for all the great advice and pics.
I just cleared my driveway again today (8 inches overnight )and then about a foot of snow drifted over, up to 2 feet in spots.
It took me 2 hours to clear it with the front loader this morning, but only an hour this afternoon as I have gotten better with the angle of the bucket and the float mechanism as well as lifting and dumping snow.
I ordered a 48" backblade from my local Kubota Dealer for $200 and I get it tomorrow. I thought Kubota would be more expensive than tractor surplus, but it was $90 cheaper.
I am looking forward to the new blade.

Thanks again,
Rick

djg, do you have a 60" or 48" blade. He's buying a 48"

48 inch, that's $6.25 per inch, not bad.

Did I hear $5.55 an inch? I paid about $400 for my Land Pride (72"), and I am pretty certain it is a little more massive than the Kubota. I did have to add for the shoes, though, and it will put some muscles in your !@#$ just to move it around by hand. I'd love to add a soft edge, but the thing weighs a few hundred pounds alone, so I am afraid the weight would prematurely wear down the soft rubber edge.

[Your BX is definitly a Cat 1 not a Cat 0 but it is considered a limited Cat 1 because of the BX's rear tires not being tall enough to allow the 3PH to lift std Cat 1 implements. The spread of the 3PH is not as wide either as a std Cat1 but the pins are Cat1].

When I had a BX23, I used a Cat 1 Woods RB60 rear blade, but it was a pain to put on because of the limited spread. To get around the tight clearance, I reversed the lower arm pins on the blade so the pins were pointing in instead of out.
