F.I.A.T. = Fix It Again Tony.
What a coincidence that the Vm Motori also shares the same bore and stroke of 94 X 100 with the A428 as the " 2.8 Duramax" engine? The R425 VM Motori 2.5 also shares the same bore and stroke as the " GM Duramax 2.5L with 92 X 94.

The Canyon's 2.8L diesel is copy of an Italian VM Motori engine by Fiat. Built under license in a 3rd world country.

Ford 6.7l Powerstroke (not really a powerstroke-International made powerstrokes) is made in of all places Mexico (a third world country).

Cummins ISF2.8l has a 94x100 bore and stroke-coincidence? I'm sure it is also just a copy of VM.

Anyway, I'm glad diesels are being offered in smaller pickups, I like that option. 31 mpg is pretty good in my opinion (I'm sure I'm wrong about that too)

I just checked the US government EPA site https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=35575&id=35052&id=36606&id=37125 to compare the 24mpg highway V6 Canyon to the 29mpg highway diesel Canyon. The numbers work out that driving 15,000 miles per year, the diesel uses $1650 in fuel while the gasser uses $1700.
Please get back to us with the time line where the diesel costs less to operate given the different purchase prices. You don't even have to count the jugs of fuel anti gel additive and replacement fuel filters that cost the diesel extra.

Sometimes people just like what they like. And if they like diesel, they should drive a diesel. Same for gas. I'm not weighing in one way or the other, but an operating cost is not the driving force for everyone. To some it is the extra torque a diesel delivers.

How about Horse Power ? The LFX gasser has 305HP / 269lb ft and the diesel either 181HP or 200HP with 360lbft or 369lb ft depending on the information source.
Which engine can perform more work per hour ?

The one being driven.

The choice to buy is not always about HP, Torque, work or cost. Often it is more about preference, that is why we have so many choices. Choice is good. Gas vehicles are good. Diesel vehicles are good.

Anyone know where the new duramax diesel came from. In a Chevy YouTube about the new diesel Colorado the head of the program for chev makes reference to being developed from a Malaysia engine. HS

Small automotive diesels are common as dirt in any country without emissions controls and where gasoline is luxury taxed several a dollars per gallon above the price of diesel

For me it's cost of ownership. I could care less if it gets 10 mpg or 20 mpg. I care about trouble free and doing the job.

Torque is what gets you up to speed quickly and horsepower is what keeps you there.
