Loved the "Skidboot" videos.

New day & new problem.
"Little Boy" now has some cactus thorns in his toung. Tried 3 times to pull them out. Now reaching into his mouth is no fun, could loose a finger if he chose to bite. Well he didn't bite me. Just closed his mouth & swung his head with enough quickness that it sure did hurt. After 3 tries, they just going to have fester out. He had one in his nose he would not let me pull, but managed to get it out himself.

Puppy love is still in full bloom, even with his bad habits. Uses his chest & head like battering rams, knocks Little Brat over or back. he thinks he is the only 1 I should pet. Pet Brat & he butts in & gets my hand (s) on him. Mother Bobby does not book his crap & he knows to mind her.

Wonder what today will bring, sure to be new problem of some kind. :D

Cattle dogs are fun. Mine was a little mouthy at first (as in griping everything with her mouth).
Tom,
Being mouthy is part of their breeding. They gotta nip the cows to keep them moving.;) She nips, but I just grab her open jaw and wrestle with her.:) Very playful stuff.

Well it took him 2 or 3 days but he got the cactus out of his toung.

The rope I used to tie him up when leaving is now history. He either brakes it or chews it into. Have some dog chain, but fear he would ruin his teeth chewing on it. He has semi learned not to go out the gate when open. That is as long as I am watching.

He likes to run along right beside my knee, that is until he thinks he knows where I am going. Then runs ahead 10 /15 feet & stops to make sure he is right.

More later - He sure is a work in progress.

Jim,
I start my new dogs on a cable run of 1/8th inch cable. They don't chew it. But I guess if they did, it would be the same as chewing on the chain.

You got that right. After 5 years I can't keep her from chomping on every tire she sees. One generator tire is flat, the lawnmower keeps getting drug around the yard. I can't ever get on the tractor without her nipping the tires until it starts moving.

She goes into the herd and nips heels to clear a path for me which is nice. Everything but the bulls move out of the way.

I love a dog with a "soft" mouth. Easier not to get bit when putting meds down their throat.

Speaking of biting tires, when I was younger with a mini bike, our German Shepard would only bite the front tire when we tried to take off. Once he held on as the front of the mini bike when over him.

Pills are not a problem with mine at all for some reason. Nail clipping was an ordeal until I offered treats after every clip. Then she started putting her foot in my lap just for the treat afterwards.

What kind of treats are you giving her?

I probably shouldn't have called them treats. Whatever is for dinner and she eats becomes what she snacks on that night. Tonight it was sweet potato. Often it is steak, carrots, pork or whatever. I only feed lean meat or healthy veggies as snacks. She loves to snitch broccoli, kale stems, cabbage trimmings, etc. out of the bucket intended for the compost. Here she is hogging the pillows in the hotel room on a road trip on my day job.
