Thanks for the tips, Jim. It makes sense to do it that way though I'm not sure I would have in my enthusiasm to get it together. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I MAY post pics of it completed depending on how I like my work. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I'm sure if I'd picked it up at the dealer it would have been put together right. Now I feel like the pressure's on to meet First Choice's standards here.

I would like to post a pic of the whole thing assembled correctly. Conversely, I'd sure be embarrassed to do it wrong and post THAT for all to see. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Yeah, but them's the rules, Gary. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Any mistake you could possibly muster is bound to make a lot of us feel just a little better about our own goofs.

What you've documented so far is the fact that box blades start out clean. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Can't wait to see it after it's eaten a few acres of your property. Then you should have the normal assortment of dirt, dust, scratches and the inevitable hunk o' vegetation wedged into the corner at the end of the blade. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Not only clean, Harv, but shiny, too. Check out this pic I took of the replaceable tooth cap on the end of the scarifier shank. The paint on the inside of the box side is so glossy that you can see the perfect reflection of the wooden pallet on which the box blade is resting. You can even see a couple splits in one of the boards on the top of the pallet. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Now that's a shine. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

The other plus to a quality powder paint, Harv, is that it is also more scratch resistant and dirt doesn't stick to it as much. This is not to say that Gary's new baby isn't going to get scratched and dirty, but it just takes a little longer and it's easier to clean up if you're of a mind to. Of course, a cheap powder paint job is no better than a cheap liquid paint job and you will get similar, if not worse, results. It's taken us a few months, but we are becoming quite pleased with the results we're getting.

Now Gary, you know we want to hear the good things about our stuff, but if you have any constructive comments, please include them as well. Thanks again.

Point taken, Jim.

In fact, it looks like about a 500% better paint job than my Howse box has. I bought it new, but when it arrived at my place on the back of a flatbed trailer it was already covered with road dust. I put it to use even before the delivery truck pulled away, so I never did see what it looked like without battle scars.

All indications are that First Choice puts out a quality product, and I'm paying close attention.

Just curious, did you get the BB20-60 (the "lightweight" at 440 lbs) or the BB30-60 (the 541 lb version)? How thick are the side walls on that unit? I'm just trying to get some sense of how heavy duty they are compared to what I've got. Thanks

Will, I have to get out the micrometer or tape measure out tomorrow when I'm out at the barn to answer you on the sidewall thickness. I know what I'm thinking but I'd hate to guess so I'll have to put you off until tomorrow. Is there any other dimension you'd like me to get while I'm out there measuring that anyhow? Or, is there any angle you'd like me to photograph to post here for you? I always have the camera in the truck so it's no trouble at all. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'm sure JimMc or Pieterv can answer this without measuring and I'll be more than happy to defer to their superior knowledge on the topic.
