My ceiling height is 13'. They make lifts and adapters for shorter ceilings. Dave

Thanks, looks like nice height.

Here is a picture of my pit-I mean lift. I am getting too old to be crawling around in a pit. My lift ran $2k and some change.

Got to agree on going with a lift -and am partial to 2 post lifts especially if doing suspension work or ever removing the rolling chassis.

I went with a 10 k lb. asymmetrical ( allows you to open your doors more fully:)) ALI , ETL certified lift to have a little extra capacity over what the dodge 3500 weighs.

For what they cost/ and how useful they are- it is hard to beat a lift.

Oh and Wow - that Is a nice shop!- still have quite a ways to go on mine.

Here's a pic of my Challenger 9000 lb lift. Of course my garage is not as clean as Dave's. Lift is in a 24'x24' garage with lots of other equipment and tools so not a lot of free space left. There is another 18'x32' pole barn attached on the back which is also full. I need to knock down part of the house for more garage space. Rafters are 14'. Garage door is a 12'x12' insulated overhead door. Door tracks are about 13' so door rolls up above the lift. Top of lift is about 12'6". No more pits for me. I use a mobile home furnace for heat in the pole barn and a kerosene salamander in the main garage when I'm working out there.

I just told my wife that and she about killed me. I guess she thought I was serious.

I have a pit and really appreciate it. I've used it dozens of times. Its probably saved me a small fortune in car repairs or oil changes that I would otherwise have not been bothered to do. A lift would be much better of course but that was out of the question for me. Put in easy to use steps and make it as long as possible (10ft minimum) and you'll never regret it. Of course cover it with thick plywood or something similar when its not in use. (You gotta be religious about that!) Mine has a concrete floor, concrete block walls and a 'lip' around the top so the cover boards are flush with the garage floor. You can do it very cheaply if you can do it yourself or do it at the same time as the garage. I have no luxuries, no built in power points or built in lighting. A 150 watt 'flood light' on an extension cord works OK for me. You also soon learn pretty quickly to move the tool box near to the steps of the pit.

Just curious as to what happens on a lift like this if the vehicle being lifted is not balanced. Looks like it would tip over front to rear. Maybe the lift senses unbalance?

The other problem I have run into is pits seem to always here a few inches of water in the bottom.
