New Garden, First Attempt at Plowing

/ New Garden, First Attempt at Plowing #31
I snagged this 4' Tiller Saturday off of CL for $600. and it does a fantastic job! Worth every penny!
I can't believe how well it blends the soil, way better than a walk behind tiller.

i have that exact plow....just got it about 2 weeks ago.....haven't tried it yet but i have a feeling my results may be similar....

my FIL wanted a tiller, i found a used 74" bush hog for $800....he bought it:eek: so, i tilled up some of his ground the other day and planted some corn, green beans and taters.....i may till up more and plant more.....i've got the bug i just hope i get to eat some of it before the usual dry summer, bugs and birds feast on it!

thanks for sharing.....

Now that you have a tiller the plow is not required!:D

It looks like you are right, Egon! I went out and tilled it up 3 times and it was looking good! Tilling Video

Reluctantly, I'll be putting this Dearborn back together to sell on Craigslist. I'm not sure if I should put a new shin, share, and coulter disk on the other bottom, or just sell it like it is.

It's surely for the best, even at a single bottom this thing is still too big for my B7100! I still want to plow, so I will be keeping my eyes out for a smaller plow.

Thanks for all the help,
Jim

yeah, two bottom plows don't seem to have a problem selling quickly on craigslist........

then, i'm sure you could pick up a nice single bottom that will match your tractor...

my soil wasn't nearly as dry as your's so i wound up with some clumps...i would have loved to let it dry out and then hit it again.....but, i had to get the stuff planted quickly....

I also used my plow for the first time this year to break some new ground. I have a smaller (40") tiller, but I find that it does not till deep enough to suit me. As a matter of fact it was after tilling that I decided to pursue a two bottom plow. The 2X14" plow I bought was well suited for my tractor (once I learned how to use it) and turned the soil over nicely. I ran the tiller over it after plowing and its pretty nice now.
I would recommend that you keep looking for the plow that fits your tractor. you should not have any trouble selling the one you have.

Your garden looks nice, time now to get some stuff planted:D

Oh, there's plenty of clumps. Trick photography!

I probably have another week to wait before the night temps are safe.

Are those brussel sprouts?
