Oh, another method I'm revising after reading other posts. I'm going to forgo the leaf enclosures and just heap into as big of piles as I can with the FEL. Member ChuckinNH seems to have marvelous results composting this way. His method involves turning the big piles every couple/few weeks and (presumably) having the moisture content just right. Goody. Seat time to boot!
He also shed some light on a compost issue I was a bit concerned about. He said he gets good results even without much green to add to the mix. That is one or our deficiencies here too; lots of forest and only pine needles and oak leaves on the ground, just not much green available. We only have a small lawn and we burn most of the needles because I've never found a decent way to compost them; they take forever to break down.
Without green to add to the mix how much steer manure should I use building my compost heaps. Five or ten buckets of fluffy dried leaves to one bucket of dried manure? I could also add some blood meal. (?)
