I personally don't feel that I was shafted by GM.....allowed me to retire at 58,I had 25 years in my other retirement plan.I enjoyed the people and the work while I was there. The ones that got shafted were less than 50 years old and lots of time with GM.They either had to move or lose it all.
The UAW protected us,the salaried lost out big time(retirement and GM stock).
Now GM is building(have built) plants any-where but the U.S.Can't compete with a brand new plant and $2.00 a day help.
I.E. the new Buick Regal....47% U.S. content

Like I said ,I am glad the UAW took over our pension other wise it would be gone.

I had two things fixed on my 2008 under warranty at local Chevy dealer earlier this year; radio speaker and pressure transducer for integrated brake controller. No problem getting work done at no cost to me and they were courteous and polite even though truck wasn't purchased from them. I am satisfied.

When did problems start with getting warranty work performed?

I havent had my '08 in this year as the bumper to bumper is over but last year had seatback pockets replaced no problem. I also had the down-pipe replace on the turbo (due to exhaust smell during regen) after the bailout. The only two real problems (one minor one mahjor) I have had in 3 1/2 years.

My '05 work truck had the rear bumper replaced under "rust" warranty last year also as the back corner rusted had rusted through. To bad I jackknifed my dump trailer into the bumper last week.

This is a company that went bankrupt despite at one time selling over 5 million vehicles in the US per year. What else would you expect? That is the #1 reason the US Government needs to stay out of the bailout game.

Stand one of the lock-steps on a soap box and the first thing he/she will say, "Get Rid Of Rules And Regulations", "The Consumer Protection Bureau Must Go", "The EPA Must Go", etc.

If companies are allowed to make something without any rules and regulations to govern their actions, a consumer protection bureau to enforce rules, regulations and warranties and a strong EPA to insure what we purchase is not toxic who suffers?

I forsee a day when something is purchased and it breaks, the consumer has no redress. The money for the purchase is lost. The purchase cannot be used and has to be thrown away. No rules, regulations and no consumer protection mean just that "NO". I don't think O'Bama is the one pushing for such.

That's because there is no part of American life that is not being invaded, regulated, controlled, taxed, eliminated, nudged in a direction, by the US government. Your right there is absolutely nothing the government is not trying to control in our lives.

So what ? if democracy works, the government ARE the people. (demos=people, cratos = control)
I dont want to get any more political, just ANY GM thread these days will quickly slide off to people spitting at their government for bailing them out. And the government seeking too much control over their citizens lifes: Given the sour financial status of the USA (caused by generations that live life on credit) it shows that many people might just need a government that teaches some financial discipline....
Another interesting fact is that many US citizens still spit at the Communist Chinese and anything they build, though China is US biggest debt owner...

But to be honest, in europe the situation isnt much better, the PIGS countries (Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain) screw the other countries by their poor financial discipline (and showing false numbers about their household, to get accepted into the EU in the first place...)
Even Latvia, a fresh member of the European Union and allmost a 3rd world country, does their homework, keeps their budget deficit under 3% and pays their dues...
Over here, the right wing doesnt want anymore control to Europe. However this situation leads to an interesting dilemma: With less control in Brussels, the "good" countries cannot demand anything from Greece, where crooked politicians dont take responsibility and are already counting on the rest of Europe to bail them out, to protect the value of our common Euro...

Whoa. You aren't referring to the US government as the one to teach financial discipline now are you?

I don't see a day without redress... there is always the legal system and the small claims courts make it very easy and inexpensive to have your day in court.

The country has some of the strictest liability laws in the world... many decisions at the corporate level are influenced by liability.

Most of what I have heard calls for a significant reduction or merging of agencies as opposed to outright elimination...

The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act and the Song Beverly statute in my State are very clear and are not effected by the EPA...

I've conducted many GM arbitrations over the years to address warranty issues... it is a simple process offered at no cost to the consumer...

It really is pretty simple. The federal gov needs to work within its eighteen limits it is that simple. The people of the individual states can run their lives and fortunes much better and always will. If you dont like what California does move. Guess if you dont like what companies do dont buy their product anymore especially with the Internet I think it has evened the field against companies feeling like they can get away with inferior products or even unsafe. Also why do so many think a group of federal thieves like our congress and enablers (Supreme Court) have your pitiful problems at heart.

Anyone ever notice whatever title the bill is that is going to save us all from the mean corporation is always designed to take our money?
