"New" GM doesn't want to repair products of "Old" GM

I think the moderators have abdicated their responsibility to steer threads away from politics. It seems like every other thread these days degrades into some kind of a political squabble and or rant. :confused2:

That's because there is no part of American life that is not being invaded, regulated, controlled, taxed, eliminated, nudged in a direction, by the US government. Your right there is absolutely nothing the government is not trying to control in our lives.

I think that the Front Porch forum was created as a place for people to go and vent about this and anything else that was bothering them.

It kind of messes up the discussions if every other subject is a spring board for a political rant.

Part of the problem, IMHO, is that people are starting topics that are guaranteed to get a political rise in the wrong forum and the moderators are not moving the topic to the Front Porch. I belong to a number of forum groups and in most, political threads quickly get moved to a political forum where people can discuss it to their heart's content. People that are there to discuss the topic, like say, tractors, are happy, everyone is happy.

A friend that spends several day on the road towing a 24' tag trailer for his business has gone through several vehicles...

His best and most reliable was his Diesel Excursion... since then he has had Ford and Chevy 3/4 pickups... all with problems.

A few months ago, he bought the 3/4 ton version of the Suburban... had a hard time finding one that was not black... seems black is the most popular color?

Anyway, towing the trailer across the Bay Bridge, his car shut-down... On Star did something and he was able to restart and continued on... on the way back, same thing happened on the San Rafael Bridge...

To make a long story short... with 3300 miles, Chevrolet replaced the entire power plant with electronics... took 9 days and he is back on the road... 50k for a new vehicle and already trouble...

He did say he had no issues getting his vehicle repaired...

For those of us with older GM products... GM no longer carries anything that I went to the counter to buy.

I had two things fixed on my 2008 under warranty at local Chevy dealer earlier this year; radio speaker and pressure transducer for integrated brake controller. No problem getting work done at no cost to me and they were courteous and polite even though truck wasn't purchased from them. I am satisfied.

When did problems start with getting warranty work performed?

I'm really not sure that this is a wide spread issue. As you have experienced, I've had no warranty problems with older GM warranty repairs....There isn't any line in the sand.

This is the usual GM hit piece that seems to be pervasive on TBN.

I just dont get why GM is still building and selling cars in the USA if their products have such a bad name (doesnt everybody complain here on TBN ??) and their car factories only eat the money earned in overseas branches.. If they just pulled the plug from their US factories, and started selling Korean and German made models, they would A. make money, B. solve all their quality issues and C. save the US taxpayer a boatload of money...

...uuuhhh... Now wait... GM building their cars overseas ?? thats not what you guys want, you all want US built cars and buy them nonetheless... And government bailout is the ultimate and logical consequence... ;)
In Europe we dont care WHO built it, we care if they built it RIGHT. If a German manufacturer builds crap, even the Germans just wont buy it.

The US economy isnt really a free market because its bound by chauvinism. Without that, the market (the customers) would quickly punish a manufacturer so they have to stay focused and responsible. GM isnt focussed at all. In Europe, only French brands can sell junk, because they are French so its ok for them to be different: "different" people like Citroen ;)

as one of our elder statesmen (ben franklin) once said: "believe non of what you hear and half of what you see." anything posted on a forum or in the media needs to be taken with a grain of salt because most all forums are driven by a vocal minority, and the media will spin any story to make it sensational enough to garner high ratings.

personally, i've owned several new and used gm products, and i've never had anything remotely approaching a "lemon". surely, there can be issues with any vehicle, otherwise there would be no need for a warranty period. the products in question aren't half as bad as some make them out to be. i've also owned a good number of european cars - many made by a manufacturer recently owned by gm. the brand often drew low marks in american reviews, but i've found the older ones nearly bulletproof through many miles. ironically, the only new vehicle i've ever owned that had problems was a german built one, but that won't stop me from buying that brand again.

years back i worked in england and whenever discussions veered in the political direction, i was often told how americans like me thought and acted, when in fact it was not at all how i thought or acted. just because you hear it in some form of media doesn't make it true for an entire population of 311 million individuals. certainly i need my country to be successful in order to live my life in a reasonable fashion, but i don't buy into any blanket "buy american" rhetoric, because it just doesn't always make sense. please don't try to label all americans as chauvinistic based on the words and actions of a few.

I usually stay out of threads like this because I think GM should have gone through the normal bankruptcy process. Shutting the stock holders out was wrong so as far as I'm concerned GM is a dead brand to me and in 2012 I'll be voting for change.

That being said if GM wants to win back customers telling people that the warranty they had is with old GM is a poor way of doing it. Sometimes there's two different bucks to worry about. There's the short term buck, the one it will cost GM if they do the repair. Then there's the long term buck that they will loose if a customer goes to a different brand for their next purchase.

Well I could paper the bathroom with K-mart, Gm, and Bethleham steel stock papers.GM most likely won't build anything to interest me for a long time. My last 3 GM products did not measure up..But I am curious how many former GM employees still buy Cadillacs?.The other Note, I will vote for anybody but Obama....He did not belong there in the first place and doen't have a clue about Americans...regardless of their prefex.

As a former GM "hourly" worker and retiree. My self or any of the retirees that I know are"NOT" buying GM products.GM screwed their work force and stock holders.
The salaried work-force took the biggest hit,the UAW took over our retirement plan.
The 17 years I worked for GM;I purchased 18 new and 3 used GM vehicles, this doesn't include what my family members purchased.
I now drive Subaru, still have my 2005 Silverado that I ordered for my retirement, only has 28,000 miles on it.
I never had a problem vehicle from GM,just don't like the way they now operate.
At one time GM had 20% stake in Subaru...they tried to screw them too.
I have owned three Subaru's...the best all around vehicle I have owned period.
