Mr. Whiz--- you are scoring a great machine at a great price. All good! You could sell it in a flash for what you are paying, so it's a no brainer, as they say.

Great to hear... that's also one of the factors that has been helping to deal with the fact that I'm parting with half of my net worth... lol.

So Mr, Wiz,

Have you locked in deal on the L3940 with the BH? That's a very nice machine and setup so hope you get it done - of course with pics!

The deal should be locked in! I sent a deposit and I'm just waiting to coordinate an inspection with my mechanic!

Excellent - get the bucket hooks welded on (if not already there) and a chain hook on the back of the BH bucket too. The thumb on the BH too is a must have - hydraulic is by far the best, but mechanical thumb is OK if budget is strained.

Congrats on your decision and selection !

Like I sez all the time, you aren't making a major purchase- you are just putting your money to work in something a lot more useful and fun than a CD or dusty old financial instrument. Need quick cash down the road- just sell it for what you have in it. Kubotas are golden for that.

Hey guys... so there have been a couple of hold-ups on this purchase.

1. The backhoe is a BH90... not a BH95 (for 3k). That's not a huge deal to me, but the guy doesn't know if the tractor that he's pulling it off of has the appropriate subframe to fit the 3940. I might have to buy a new subframe to get it on there. Somewhat annoying, but not a deal breaker.

2. The guy was going to put the backhoe on there for me... now he's not, but he's agreed to deliver it, which saves me 6 hours and the cost of a truck rental instead.

3. At the end of the day, I'm going to end up getting the Grand L3940 with 237 hours on it, with a backhoe and a subframe mount on a pallet for $26,500... dropped off at my door. I will NOT be able to have a diesel mechanic look at the item before it's dropped off, but the guy is willing to give me an 'out' if there is something wrong with the machine. He'll accept a return if I drop it back off for 100% of the money.

I could also have the guy bring the stuff to the Kubota dealership with him to throw it all together, but he's letting on that such work will add several weeks to the purchase... especially if the subframe mount is not the right one.

I don't know what is involved with installing a subframe mount, or a backhoe... and I don't know the likelihood of anything being wrong with a 3940 with 237 hours. I figured it would be best to write this update and see what you guys think. I'm going to check the thing out in person on Sunday.

Al

I've been keeping my eyes open for a few other options... here are some interesting ones that popped up... you know... in case you guys feel like lookin' at some stuff just for fun:

2007 KUBOTA M5700 with 450 hours, loader, and backhoe for $24,900.00... (61 hp, more than 2,400 lbs more lift capacity than the Grand L3940..... BUT... I have no idea how the other 'features' from the Grand L compare to this one, and I tend to feel more comfortable with 'newer stuff'.

What do you think?:

Here's another one...

2015 L3901 (97 hours) for $19,900 (as a start to the bidding... buy it now for 25k) Also comes with a trailer and 60" box blade, a 60" mower and a sub soiler... only drawback? It's in Texas... I'm almost tempted to go for a road trip and work out the backhoe later... that trailer would be nice, and I really need to cut my grass.

M9000 with 1320 hours for 19,900... seems like a BIG tractor, but horsepower makes me oddly happy.

In case you have time for one more...

Finally, an auction for another grand L3940 with 600 hours, only at 20,000 currently, but heated and AC'd cab:

I don't mean to make this any more confusing... but this guy is becoming a pain in the a** to deal with... I just want to make a good buy, and get to work.

Thank you guys as always for taking the time to help me... and everyone else.

Is the hoe a Kubota BH90 or a Woods BH90-X? Makes a difference. Expect $1000-1500 for the subframe and $200 for the hose kit. It is unlikely the subframe he has will fit but not impossible. You could of course research that.
I know it has rear remotes but may not have a power beyond loop to run the hoe which could be another $500. So him delivering is not an even trade by any means.

This is exactly why I asked... so I might be all the way up to 28,500 when all is said and done. At that point, it seems like those other tractors might be a good option.

Im sure you have been arround enough to know that attempting any return with the seller will be futile (especially as you've already described him as difficult to deal with). That's even if you write it into a sales contract. Not saying not to get it, just saying not to expect to return it.
