To know if that justifies a $2,000 greater payment for a USED machine. Does the dual speed allow me to pick up bigger stuff on the 'low' setting?

No, the dual speed within a range allows you to add torque "on the fly" without changing ranges. For example pushing into the pile in Lo and moving out with the bite you took to the next location at a faster speed with less torque in Hi.. Make sense? .. This is not a critical thing, this just a "nice thing". A deluxe thing, like many other of the features of the HST+ . Not critical, those of us without this transmission still love our regular HST machines... I am just saying this machine has many deluxe features that make it "nice"

Only you can answer the is it worth it question.

There are about 1,000,000 situations where I can make decisions at the drop of a hat... this is just not one of them. Someone make this decision for me! (please )

Wooaahhh... lift capacity is a full 1,000 lbs more 24'' from the hitch on the kubota!

Aeblank, he backhoe he is adding is a BH95... which is definitely a subframe mount... is that what I want, or does that not release quickly?

None of them attach all that quickly. A subframe mount is stronger. 3-point mounts have been known to crack/break transmission housings.

Throttle-Up Switch
Auto Throttle Advance
Hydro Dual Speed (H-DS) HST Hi-Lo Function
HST Response Control
HST Mode Selection

To know if that justifies a $2,000 greater payment for a USED machine.

Again, I'm a Kubota guy, so I obviously do (and did, with my money) say yes.

The 2 speeds within the 3 ranges is sweet. For instance, high turtle is about the same as medium rabbit. (low, medium and high all having a turtle and a rabbit). So if I'm hauling down the driveway, but need more power for the hill, I can toss it into turtle instead of having to switch into medium range.
Throttle up is nice in some ways, but I rarely use it. It just increases the engine RPM as you depress the "go" pedal. I find it somewhat "over-revving" depending on what I"m doing. It turns on/off with the flip of a lever, and I do use it sometimes.

The mode selection includes stall guard. So it automatically reduces the HST pedal so as to not stall the tractor. Going up a hill, I keep it "floored" and it slows down instead of bogging/stalling.

As others have said, it's not "needed". Like a heated steering wheel in a car. It's way more important to have an SSQA on the loader, which the 3940 has.

Oh yeah, it has the bigger loader too (LA724 vs LA524), so that's nice.

Wooaahhh... lift capacity is a full 1,000 lbs more 24'' from the hitch on the kubota!

Of the two choices, I would go with the Kubota because it is a larger tractor and given the rocks you say you have, you will need a larger tractor. As mentioned before, the Kioti CK you are looking at is not as large a frame size as the Kubota.

Tractors are not sized by hp. You can have a 60 hp Compact Utility Tractor (CUT) that is smaller than a 45 hp Utility Tractor (UT). Don't get caught up in hp unless you have a specific PTO driven implement that needs the hp. For the chores you've mentioned, I'd be more concerned about frame size, weight and hydraulic strength.

The appropriate Kioti for comparison would be a used DK40SE. The DK does not have all the features of the Kubota but at least you would be comparing same size tractors.

Just so you know, CUTS com in "small" "medium" and "large" frame sizes. The CK would be a "medium" the Kubota a "large". There are also some I would consider "extra large" like a Kioti DK55 or Mahindra 5035

We can't make the decision for you, there are plus's and minus's to each direction. This is not an easy choice.

Definitely true. Might not be an easy choice, but it's an awesome one cause you're getting a tractor. You'll love having a tractor.

Luke, I would actually cry if you bought this thing before I had a chance. Don't make a grown man cry.

I have kids who can't see that happen.
