New Holland Boomer 35 or 40 good tractors or too early to tell

Looked at Kubota and LS looks like a higher quality build to me than Kubota. Seem welds, fit, finish, design, quality of materials all same or better on LS than Kubota. I also think the two main engines use by LS, Mitsubishi S4QL, and S4S are superior to any Kubota engine. You sure Kubota is not just a name now, and LS is where Kubota was in the 80's. S. Korea is eclipsing Japanese products on all fronts, just like Samsung and Sony. It's just hard for the die hards to admit. Turns their worlds upside down. Never though I would own anything but a Sony TV years ago but that plasma Samsung blow Sony away. Thought I would own a Kubota when the time came for a tractor, but LS smokes them. New design, new factory and modern robotic assembly and LS is out front. Kubota is like Chev was just resting on loyalty and dealer network to carry them while competition just passed them by. I think Kubota is over priced, old design, quality has suffered, and dealers are fat bloated and arrogant.

Really, we looked 5 brands before buying a Kubota. The fit and finish of the LS was the worst of the group, paint, oil seepage in numerous places(not good for new tractor), the machining quality of the 3 point was very subpar. Believe me when I say we don't bleed orange, it's only one tractor amongst 5 Red ones. I'm not knocking the NH LS's as I haven't seen them but I stand by my observations of the LS's that looked at at a nearby dealer. Hopefully NH has placed QC inspectors in the LS factories to over see the QC, I know companies do this as Delta moved much of their production to Korea they had put inspectors in the factories there to maintain QC.

NH switched to LS to save money and a larger profit margin who's to say they won't switch again in 5 years from Korea to China or India.

I don't know what you bought, the LS model I looked at is a utility tractor not a compact tractor. So I can't speak for those because I didn't look at the compacts. The U series LS was designed in 08 with modern CAD computer programs and was a clean sheet of paper. It has won awards for Ag. design in engineering all over the world. A new factory was built to manufacture it and is the most modern. Fit finish and assembly are tops. The engine in mine is the Mitsubishi S4s, a real world class diesel engine in it's own right. 3.3L's no turbo. So the Kubota's I compared to were M class stuff, there was just no competition. The LS was clearly a better more modern tractor. So your investigation may not have been my experience if you were looking at compact tractors. My investigation showed the MF 1600's build in Japan by Iseki to be the top compact tractor and if I had bought a compact I think that's what I would purchased. Iseki diesels are world famous.

I'm just telling what we saw, it was a 40some hp compact LS, I don't remember the number, it was last Spring. I doubt there's a tractor made these days that wasn't designed on CAD and built with CNC equipment. I'm a CNC programmer with nearly 30 years of Job Shop experience. The last machine I programmed and ran had a table large enough to hold your tractor in it's entirety. Now back to the subject, no more than we would have saved I wouldn't have considered the LS because once they added a loader it was really close in price to the Kubota L3940. My wife uses her tractors daily and has know there's a network of parts available out there tomorrow and 10 years from now. I find it hard to believe that the LS tractors are more advanced than Kubota's Grand L or their M series. Everyone else is playing catch up to Kubota technology, the 4000 series JD didn't hold a candle to the Grand L's and neither did CaseIH at $5-10K more. She has tractors from 20 to over a 100hp all of IH and CaseIH I never thought she would buy anything but red but I was wrong. If I've upset or offended anyone I'm sorry.

Looked hard at Kubota, but decided on a Boomer 40. FEL quick disconnect couplers were a problem, NH has a TSB replacing current couplers. Other than that minor snafu I have been extremely pleased with its performance. FEL (250TL) will pick up a heaping loader of water soaked dirt without a problem (need lots of weight on 3pt though). I have the gear type. I have run a 12 inch auger in central texas black clay with no problems with bogging down. My last tractor was a Ford 4000.

I have been a fan of NH for a long time, but unfortunately, things have changed drastically. The T1520 is not the same as the old reliable 1920. A dealer that has been around for 50 years told me it was the same tractor for 20 years. Then the NH rep told me the only thing that is the same is the hood/style of the tractor. So please be very careful with what any salesman tells you. Be careful while brush hogging with the TC models - the wires underneath can get caught on brush, pulling them out of the selinoid/valve, which costs over $400 to replace. If you are interested in the LS model, a dealer in our area is offering a 5 year warranty... My brand new NH is going in for warranty work for the second time within 2 years and only 88 hours. Be sure to know all the information about your warranty and get everything in writing.... Good luck to you!

Can you please provide more information about the TSB?

The new LS models are sold by New Holland AND also individua LSl dealers. On the NH brochure, you can see the LS name plate on the bottom righthand side of the frame. Makes me nervous seeing these tractors are made in Korea, but more importantly, check out the hydraulic filter. There is no bracket supporting it, only the hydraulic lines. If you ask me, this tractor seems to be poorly made. I have had major issues with a NH dealer. I bought a brand new T1520. They rebuilt the motor and it is STILL making a noise. It only has 88 hours. I will never buy a NH again, and maybe this is why their stock is dropping and they sold out to another company Fiat. Good luck with your tractor purchase. Hope it all works out well!

Since my Mitsubishi made Cub Cadet 72** series died and I went looking for my next tractor, I've seen a lot of brand name shell games. Turns out my particular Cub Cadet had previously been a Case IH 1140, and later, a Mahindra 2816. Take every brand name you can think of and run it through Wikipedia. Great place to get the histories.

With 40 hours on my 2010 LS R4010 in the first four weeks, I'm seeing things to like and not like. I can't imagine any machine being perfect for everyone and every application. Overall, glad to have what I have, so far.

I'd like to hear about this "technology" from Kubota that everyone else is trying to catch up with. I have a feeling that this thread is about to become amusing.
