New Holland/Ford 555E engine oil issues

I wasn't suggesting hot wiring around the fuse except "very briefly" as a trouble shooting tool. Check your fuse panel and make sure someone hasn't jumper the fuel shutoff fuse(5 amp). If this or any fuse in panel has been jumped then the master fuse is next in line.
Nor I. I suggested running a hot wire to the switch to prove connectivity between power and switch.

I'm with Eddie, hoping the replacement fuse link fixes the problem.

I'm wondering that too. Since it's something that I've never dealt with before, I'm hoping it was more age related then electrical, but Murphy's Law will show itself soon enough. The original link has lasted since 1998, so maybe I'll get lucky?

I had a fuseable link go twice in one tractor I had in a period of the 1st 5 yrs I own it . No particular reason and it never went again in the next 15 yrs I owned it. Never did come up with a reason.

I ran the backhoe for a couple hours yesterday and it worked perfectly. The extra Fusible Links from Messicks are on my shelf, just in case. I need to find a good way to store them so I can find them if I need one again, and not forget where I put them. Small things tend to disappear on me.

Thank you for all the help. I don't even want to think of how long it would have taken me to find the Fusible Link if I was just following wires one at a time!!!!!

I put those things in a drawer of my tool chest.

Zip tie the replacement to the present one.

I don't think that's possible. It's flat metal with two notches at either end to slide through the bolts that hold it in place. It's on the firewall, right next to the engine, in a very dirty area.

Something else that I forgot to follow up on. When I changed the oil, I put in 4.5 gallons. When I checked the dipstick after using it yesterday, it was overfilled by a huge amount. The oil looks good, but there is black soot in there. I think it's from the exhaust. Either a valve, or blowby. I sort of expect that, it has over 8,000 hours and it smokes when I start it, or push the engine real hard.

I'm wondering if my information on how much oil to put in it is wrong? I need to find another source, because it's way past the mark where it's supposed to be. Of course, that doesn't explain why I took out several gallons more than that.

I could not smell fuel in the old oil in a five gallon bucket. I don't smell any fuel off of the dipstick. It smells like oil. Right now it looks and smells like clean oil with black soot in it. I think the old stuff was full of exhaust soot.

These old engines run dirty. Mine will blacken the new oil within an hour.

Need to find the source of the overfill or at least confirm it's "making" oil. I'd start by draining it down to the full mark, then monitor.

Your manual should tell you how much it holds. My A model holds 7 quarts if I change the filter. 6 quarts without filter change.

I went back and read your post again. Not sure why you put in 4.5 gallons???? You need to drain down to full mark immediately!!!
