I think Kubota's solution was an excellent approach. I hope New Holland follows suit.

Anyone know Deere's policy?

Well I don't know about other areas of the country, but where I live Deere hires dealerships that chase customers away by being rude, unhelpful and generally uppidy when you walk in with a check book. If JD has a policy to discourage sales over the internet, perhaps they got it from whoever signs up their dealerships???

Sounds like my 2 local JD dealers as well. I have two local ones and went in to buy about a thousand dollar implement a couple weeks ago, and could not get the time of day... had cash in hand.. just wanted to give it to someone... I assumed they already had too much money and didn't want mine.. so I left..

Cash and turned away! That sounds un-american /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Maybe JD is really a foreign company! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In Canada Kubota assigns sales areas to each dealer. You can't sell or make a delivery to a customer in another dealers area. Therfore we see very little discounting and most sell at list price or higher.

are you positive about that? We have "areas" as well, but there is nothing to stop us from stepping outside our territory.

Bob sure is in rare form today /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think I've gotten more laughs off this forum today than I have since I started comming here.

Sorry about that - I wasn't aiming at you at all, and in fact I appreciate your giving us a heads-up on this. Personally, I'm not even mad or annoyed with NH corporate - but I do think they're being just plain silly.

Happened to me THREE TIMES. First time was about 10 years ago, I went in looking for a large garden tractor, didn't do much research beforehand, just talked to a couple people. They recommended the 3xx series because it was shaft drive back then if I recall correctly and I have hills and was worried about belt drive slippage. Walked in with my check book. Stood around. Asked for help. Stood by the garden tractors. Asked for help. Walked outside looked at the real tractors. Came back in. Stood around. Asked for help. Finally gave up and left. Walked into the Cub Cadet/Kubota/Case store and they greeted me. The owner came out and talked with me. Talked me out of a brand new unit and into a trade in that had about 40 hours on it, came with a front blower, wheel weights, chains, and 54" deck. I wrote a check that I thought (at the time) was large, but felt I got a good deal.

In the late 1990s went looking for a real tractor. Walked into the JD store for a CUT. 1st story repeated itself. This time I was looking for something about 30hp. Buying it with a partner. Eventually went to the same store the Cub came from. Same owner came out, greeted me by name (I had seen him many times since). Got the B2910/402 loader/GB backhoe/box blade. Wrote the check.

In 2003 went looking for a smaller CUT to mow with. Went to the JD store, but was skeptical. Walked in. Same game started. This time I walked back out pretty quickly. But I knew the 4115 would be the ticket if they would sell it to me. Went to the Cub/Case/Kubota store. Owner wasn't in. Got a regular sales guy. Didn't know me from Adam. Played with me. Gave me a high price. I called the NH store, never even been there. Knew the TC24 would be dynamite, knew the specs, knew the prices. He gave me a quote on the phone. Not bad, not great. I called the Kubota guy back, got the run around. Went to look at the TC. Loved it. Dickered on the price over the phone, got to within inches of the Corriher prices without much grief at all. Called the Kubota guy, got the run around. The NH guy called back, I said I'd drop off the check, he said don't make the trip, I trust you. I'll order it the way you spec'd it and get back to you. He called back within an hour, said the tractor, spec'd my way would be delived in a matter of days, I'd have it for the weekend. Then not an hour later the Kubota store owner called. He apologized for not being involved in the tractor I was trying to buy, he asked if I was happy with the new sales guy. I said I was really happy with the NH sales guy, and told the Kubota owner the entire story. Since then I've bought a Cub ZTR and another Cub rider from him, so he and I are still doing business. But with as much as I spend on equipment, you'd think JD would have the sense to take my money!?! Since 1999 I've bought 2 riding mowers, 1 ZTR, 2 diesel CUTS and the Ventrac tractor plus assorted wackers, chippers, saws. I've given up on Deere, but ONLY because of my local dealer.
