New JD 1023E and 1026R

Wonder why the tractors will be delayed so long? I was hoping that they just needed some time to change out some small part(s), but this sounds serious.

I guess it's better to fix the problem whatever it is in house than after it has been sold, and customers are lining up outside the dealer trying to get it fixed.

Months ago there was a rumor that there was a problem with how the steering works. Maybe it is a case of something needing to be re-engineered.

I stopped at the local JD dealer today. Was told about the "issue" with the tractors. Dealer told me they are going through each one to correct the problem(s). Said they were doing the work at a JD plant in GA. Supposed to be delivered in June....

Did he say what the "issue" was?

My understanding is that it is a "cast" piece - not made by Deere - that was not cast properly. This cast piece does not have anything to do with the steering. Deere (properly, IMHO) decided to take care of the issues in house, rather than send them all to the dealers to take care of before retailing.

A guy on another forum had a delivery date for a new 1026r last week which came and went. This week his dealer told him they won't be available until the end of may or middle of June. His dealer said it was a problem with the rockshaft.

I spoke with my local JD dealer early this evening (southern PA.) He told me
they expect delivery beginning first week of June. Whatever vendor part was
defective, the vendor (supposedly) went out of business.

The Dealer by me (NW NJ) said the issue was with a the rockshaft, which they found not to be within the design specifications, but it wasn't caught until they did a quality inspection. At which point they were about to launch and had however many built of the 1023E. I think they made the right call in delaying the launch and dealing with it in-house. They will save more money that way versus all of the dealers looking for reimbursement of their labor rates and it will save the brand from potentially being tarnished by an unsucessful launch. Several months from now, most people will forget about the launch delay and be enjoying their tractor.
