New JD 1023E and 1026R

Thought you'd like to know that I got a call from my local Deere dealer and they will have a 1026R in for demo next tuesday with Kubotas for comparison. I told him I'd be there with bells on.

My 2 cents, this is a large expensive lawn mower. I tested some small tractors like this before I bought my first compact. With the small tires and all the light weight hardware they just really don't do hard work. I've since had a JD4100 and a JD2520. In my mind these both fall into a category between large lawn mowers and real tractors. When I'm doing real hard work on a small scale these machines are just adequate.

My 4 cents, anyone with a machine larger than yours could say the same. The 70 horse machine will work circles around the 2520. But....there are economies of scale. For the buyer who needs a multi-purpose machine that can mow, do some utility work, snow removal, basic tillage, these small machines pound for pound are like a wolverine. Very capable for their size. Add in manuverability, lower height, less storage space, and ease of mounting, these machines fill a great niche. If you mount and dismount multiple times in a day, the lower height machines will make a huge difference for an older owner.
I suspect these machines will be a strong seller despite a weak economy. Price a solid Zero turn, and for a multe-tasking machine, these start to look better. It's why restaurants have menu's.....freedom of choice.

My local Deere dealer said the 1 series will arrive within the next few weeks and they have several units coming including a demo tractor. I am kinda excited to see what Deere changed on the 1 series from the 2305.

Couldn't agree more, we have an 85 HP, 72 HP as well 50 HP, but can't live without the smaller BX and 2305. We won't be trading in anything on the new 1 Series, but when it comes time to replace the BX or 2305, who knows, may just be the ticket.

For just a little more money the 2520 is a better bargain than the 1026R. Here are just a few reasons why; much better hydraulics, much better lift capacity at the PTO, more "grunt power" (engine torque), and last but not least, more HP. You can get garden tractors that cost much less and also have much of the same features and power that the 1026R has. I really think the 2520 or 2720 are better and you get more "bang for the buck" with them than you do with these new series 1 tractors.
