I have a 2007 L5240, non EGR and it starts up the same, few seconds of smoke and stumble then is fine, I'm not positive but I think kubota went to the EGR system on these either in 09 or 10.

I have a 2008 brochure and it mentions the "new" EGR engines in it. Interesting how your non egr starts the same:confused2::confused2:
Oh well Being close to the arctic circle I am in favor of 'global warming' so I will contribute to it all I can:laughing::laughing::laughing:
The picture showing what the exhaust looks like with a blow head gasket was a result of trying to clean up smoke on start-up. It was a test machine/engine and it never made it into production in that configuration. Be glad you don't have a tractor with an engine that doesn't require a particulate filter. My tractor doesn't set off the smoke detector in my garage and that is important. Start one of my snowmobiles in the garage and within a couple seconds the alarm is blaring along with every alarm in the house. My wife insists I drag them outside before starting. That's the point where diesel start-up smoke would be objectionable. A minus I now realize of my L5740 vs the L3710 it replaced is fuel usage. I haven't really needed the extra power much so far (that will come later) but I go through a lot more diesel doing the small jobs.
