Flail Mower New Land Pride FM25 series flail mowers

Why do you say that? What is a good alternative? (Rears is too backordered for me). Sounds like Maschio and the other better Italian models are a good option....I just thought I would be a good American and get a US made mower.
The quote I got for a Land Pride was from the Kubota dealer. You probably knew that.

Because charging $2200 for a set of Y knives is highway robbery!!! That dealer is worst then loan sharks! Whatever you do get the **** away from that dealer!

So what is the 7' Land Pride worth with the Y knives? I have not seen any other brand price their knives separately, however they do make you buy a set if the standard included set is not what you want. That is the way it works with the imported brands. Rears will just give you a price with the knives you want. Since Land Pride only works through Kubota (owned by Kubota) there is not much transparency. I do know that good flail knives cost about $60 each to replace.

When I priced a 6 foot LP flail it was between $5100-$5500 and that was with any knife I chose. When I priced Maschio hammer blades the cost to replace a whole set of 24 of them was $250. So hopefully this will give you an idea of what the real market is for this stuff.

When was that? This may not be that out of line...1 foot larger, more blades. And...don't forget the new "Kubota Orange" paint. Land Pride used to be branded yellow.

It was 2 weeks ago...I don't care what color paint it's got on it that dealer is trying to screw you 6 ways from Sunday.

I am getting another quote from a few other dealers on a Maschio Brava L 230 (7.5'). I'll see if I want to pay an extra $2,000 for the Kubota Orange paint and made in Kansas. I have three Italian trucks (Rams) and a Muratori tiller and they work just fine. Just for fun I am getting a quote on an Alamo 88" from another dealer too.
I can buy a free delivery Betsco Chinese mower for the cost of the Land Pride blades. My current Betsco has been worked hard for 8 years and I did two blade change. Several belt changes and no other issues other than rusty parts. I chop 5 acre orchard of woody prunnings and a lot of grass with it. I just thought my new tractor deserved something
of higher quality....which Italian and US definitely are. In defense of Betsco...they are "very fine people" and have a good stock of parts and support their stuff. Just look at their eBay rating. Along with the folks in Iowa (that use about 5 or 6 different business names) they seem to deliver what they promise have good backup to what they sell by the ratings.

I decided to dig into this separate pricing on the knives issue. I found several retail price guides that Land Pride publishes for retailers (lists the retail price and various discounts based on type of item and dealer). The local dealer is quoting me the retail price form 2019 book, which is pretty good as their has been inflation in farm equipment lately.
And....the Land Pride pricing guide does price the knives separately based on which blade you want. I guess it allows the buyer to get the knives they want and keeps them from having three different prices for the overall mower. The quote I got was to the dollar the retail price with no extra freight and includes setup, which can take a little time.
My Land Pride/Kubota dealer is transparent in their markups, letting you know what it is on each item. As a business owner myself I understand that the only reason I do what I do is for the margin I get. My real question to the forum was to help figure out the brands I should consider. I have it down to Land Pride, Maschio and Virismo. In the interest of keeping this thread shorter than the 500 page flail thread...I will hold off and post further when I can let everyone know some real world after purchase reviews. Thanks for all the help so far.

I don't know where you found this pricing guide but as I stated, I was never quoted anything close to that. If Land Pride or its dealers are trying to charge $2200 above the cost of the flail mower for a set of Y knives then that is straight up unethical, legal robbery and nobody should ever buy one.

Hello HarleyBob,

I HOPE you talking about the cast iron hammer knives from Italy??????????????????????????????????????

If they are telling you that the formed from flat steel scoop knives are $60.00 run away and buy a Maschio Orchard and Vineyard Flail Shredder Mower.

This thread has been dormant for a while, and since I am about to pull the trigger on a Land Pride FM25-84 I am hoping someone may have had some experience with that unit. I will be powering with JD 4066R, and hoping to be abe to use E-PTO if I don't let the fields go too long between cuttings. Mostly pastures with not much other then an occasional down limb. Located in west middle AL, ao terrain is not terrible.
Thoughts and or suggestions?
Jeff
