That seems to be the consensus and there is more than a little logic to support it. As I understand it, long haul drivers will actually be able to run up to fourteen hours instead of the current ten so they will benefit by getting in more miles per day.
The short run, short haul and LTL drivers who have more pickups, deliveries and time awaiting being loaded and unloaded are capped at fourteen hours from the time they start their truck in the AM to when they're out of hours, regardless of how much of that fourteen hour window was spent sitting in yards and at loading docks not turning a wheel.
The shippers will catch on soon enough when their loads scheduled to deliver six hundred miles away aren't there for over a day because the shipper had the driver backed up to his door for three hours getting loaded. One shipper I know just added eight new dock spaces at his warehouse. Unfortunately, he added no new shipping or dock personnel. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Now all he has is more docks for trucks to sit at without anyone loading them. Maybe personnel and fork lifts are part of 'phase II' in the plan. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
