New LS Mt125 or Used Kubota L3240

/ New LS Mt125 or Used Kubota L3240 #25
I'm new to the Tractor world but I've been doing a lot of research online. I have the opportunity to buy a brand new LS MT125 TLB or a used Kubota l3240 with 400 hours and a brush hog. I have about 4 and 1/2 acres of property that needs to be maintained but two acres of it is overgrown with blackberries and needs to be leveled. I know the back hoe would be extremely helpful but so would having the bigger Kubota. I would also get a smaller brush hog for the MT125 but obviously the Kubota would be able to handle the brush better. Which would work better for me?
Thanks for the help.

Let痴 get a more complete list of tasks if you can come up with it. These are very different machines.

For 4 acres you are right in that area of maybe need a CUT but a Grand L might be too big. If considering the Grand L be sure it will get into all the places you need on the property. If you have groomed lawn you probably dont want to run over it with a Grand L. How is the turning radius on the Grand L on your property. Get out a tape measure and figure out what it will take at different spots. A brush hog (we call them rotary cutters) adds quite a bit of length behind the tractor...can you still turn and not hit things on your property in all areas?

The backhoe on the MT is a few steps above a hand shovel. If you need to do any serious work it isnt going to cut it (not enough reach or weight/power). Give this some serious thought, just be sure you dont have higher expectations than the machine is capable of. Personally I love the SCUT TLB setup...I have a bad back and it makes for a really maneuverable and useful machine. I dont have one but I demoed it. At some point I am probably going to have one.

Unfortunately I missed out on the Kubota. Oh well. I'll keep. Looking. I really appreciate everyone's help.

You are right to study and learn before you commit hard earned dollars to a CUT. It's too bad that you missed out on the Kubota, but you are learning more about what you want. Keep looking, and get on several and try them out. You learn a lot by getting up close and personal. Keep looking and trying until you feel confident you know what matters to you, and what tractors seem to cost.

The reason for that lengthy preamble is that, once you do know what will work for you, don't wait too long if you do find a really good tractor at a really good price. They aren't all that plentiful, and they don't stay available for long.

Hindsight now that it is not available, but the Kubota would have been the way to go.

And that is just how quick a good used machine goes.... Much harder to find than a new one ;)

The great news is IF you happen on a new one and take good care of it..you wont have a hard time selling it!

The results might surprise you. After getting some time on the L4240HSTC we purchased last December, it just seemed more agile than the L3200 it is replacing. To check them I poked a driveway marker in the ground next to the rear tire and then made a hard turn. Stopping the tractor after the tractor completed a 180 degree turn, the rear tire on the L3200 was 98" away from where it started. The L4240 drew a tighter circle at 71".

Today I had the little Ford 1210 out for a bit and couldn't help but wonder how tight it would turn. Tried the same test and it was 80". Both Kubotas have R4's and the Ford has R1's.

No doubt but this is a SCUT MT125; much smaller than an L series Kubota.

My response was to your question "How is the turning radius on the Grand L". I even added info on the smallest tractor I have - the Ford 1210 (has 16 horses and weighs 1,442#). The Grand L turns 9" shorter than the Ford.

The only issue with the size of my L4240HSTC is that I had to trim some low-hanging branches. That's a small price to pay for having A/C while mowing.
