New M59 Owner

I'll admit I've never used an M59 but I don't normally think about using a tractor to build a gravel driveway. My driveway is 12x550 feet and cut out 12-14" deep, though my tractor is much smaller than an M59 so maybe I'm thinking small. Is it possible to build a driveway with a large tractor?

Why not...? With enough time, patience, practice - you could build another 12x550' driveway with your 3030. (Unless, it's a granite base - 12" to 14" deep!)

Yes, I forgot. That will be an awesome machine and I can't wait to see the pics. ....I'm still trying to wrap my head around using my B3030 to build my driveway - LOL.

They are very nice machines... We were using ours late into the night yesterday. We live in the mountains where land tends to be steep and access is often narrow. The M59 is so much more stable, maneuverable, and powerful than our previous tractors that we just don't think about those things much anymore.

To be fair the M59 does have its fair share of new model design mistakes and strange decisions. A long warranty provides peace of mind.
The parking brake being on the wrong side of the seat is an inexplicable oddity, but difficult for me to figure out how to change. While other things like seat height or not having a convenient tool box - can be dealt with easily enough.

With 30 hrs it probably came with whatever options were on it. Does it have any? Which ones did you get?

Options reminds me of that folding hood protector on ours and frankly I would not have ordered in spite of how nice it looks - but luckily it came already installed.

The parking brake when seated forward is the brake pedals, when seated rearward is the hand lever. Is that what you mean? Also I reshimed my seat to a more forward slanted position. Worlds of difference.

I think you can do anything with any size tractor. It's just a matter of convenience and time. With my little 16 HP Yanmar, blade, and FEL I turned a half mile of dirt path into a usable dirt road. Also built a pond, some rock walls, and dug a foundation with it....all of which would have been so much easier to do with a larger machine!

As for snow, I used to spend all weekend with the Yanmar plowing what the M59 does in a couple of passes. Interestingly, both machines use about the same amount of fuel to do the same work. The difference is time.

As Akfish says, this all depends on not having to move rock. That's when the big machine can make some progress but the other just cannot.

Yes, I'm speaking of the handbrake lever. It's on the left hand side of the seat where it gets in the way of our feet when we try to swivel in the seat for the BH. It's just a little thing....and one that I hope they change on the next model run. I'd do it, but it's welded and difficult to access. Initially it could have been just as easily mounted on the other side of the seat and there would be more room for everything else. A design oversight, just like the seat position.

I'm sure that some of the people replying to this thread have wondered what happened and why no pictures.

The deal on my lightly used M59 fell through because the original owner could not clear the lien. That is the he owned more than I was giving him and did not have the means to pay off the tractor.

Because of the good information on this site I was able to ask the right questions regarding the lien. It may have worked out if I could have trusted him but I think that he was having money problems and hence the liquidation of the M59.

Now I have a line on the another M59 and yes, there is a Lien on this one too. I'm going to offer to pay KCC directly and give the owner the balance. He has not agreed to this yet and I;m waiting to hear from him. If this does not work out I may just start looking a new ones.

Sounds like you know what you are doing finance-wise. Shucks, it sure would be more fun to be buying a machine now instead of like we did in 2008 - just in time to watch the price and value drop like a rock right after we bought it. But we still get the use of it - and that's been worth it. As far as tractor/value/accessory/usability you probably already know a lot about that as well since you are looking at a machine as close to commercial duty as Kubota offers. On TBN there's about a dozen M59 users who post here. So if you have questions fire away.
